All four local basketball teams that appeared in last week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll moved up in the rankings that were released on Monday.
The Onalaska High School boys hold the highest position with their spot at No. 4 in Division 2. The Hilltoppers (1-0), who were sixth last week, opened their season with an 83-35 win over visiting Wisconsin Rapids and is off this week until Thursday’s 5:45 p.m. MVC opener against Logan at the Steve Hole Field House.
Slinger leads Division 2 and is followed by Mount Horeb and Wauwatosa West.
The Aquinas boys (1-0) are fifth in Division 3 this week after checking at the No. 6 spot last week.
The Blugolds (1-0) have also played just once and open their MVC season by hosting Sparta (1-0) at the Reinhart Athletic Complex on Friday. The top Division 3 team this week is Racine St. Catherine’s, and the Angels are followed by Racine Lutheran, Freedom and Oostburg.
The Central girls moved up three spots in Division 2, and the Aquinas girls bumped up one spot in Division 3.
The RiverHawks (3-0) are sixth in their division and the Blugolds (4-1) eighth in theirs.
Central owns wins over West Salem, Marshfield and DeForest as it gears up for a Tuesday night nonconference game at Eau Claire Memorial (2-1), which fell out of the No. 10 spot in Division 1 this week.
Beaver Dam leads Division 2 and is followed by Rice Lake, Milwaukee Pius, Appleton Xavier and Whitefish Bay.
Aquinas is also gearing up for a big game on Tuesday when it travels to Holmen (3-1) and puts its 114-game MVC winning streak on the line. The Blugolds have won four straight games.
The top Division 3 team is Oostburg. Edgerton, Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Wisconsin Dells, Winneconne and Platteville have the spot from No. 2 through No. 7.
