LONG LAKE, Minn. — The Caledonia High School football team had too much Roman Voss to deal with Saturday night.
Voss, a quarterback for Jackson County Central and University of Minnesota commit, rushed for five touchdowns, passed for another and gave his team an early lead in what became a 42-15 win over the Warriors in an MSHSL Class AA state quarterfinal at Orono High School.
Caledonia (9-3), making its 17th state appearance, had an eight-game winning streak snapped and was knocked out of the postseason by the Huskies (11-0) for the second time in three years.
Voss scored on runs of 8, 68, 1, 13 and 25 yards and completed a 40-yard touchdown pass to lead Jackson County Central — last year’s state champion — into a semifinal matchup with Eden Valley-Watkins at U.S. Bank Stadium on Friday morning.
The Warriors scored one touchdown in the second quarter and another in the fourth.
Senior quarterback Will Allen completed a 31-yard scoring pass to junior Jacoby Hammell early in the second quarter. Sophomore Charlie Mauss kicked the extra point to get Caledonia within 14-7.
Jackson County Central then scored the next four touchdowns before senior Noah Schroeder scored on a 2-yard run, and junior Bodie Knutson added a conversion run to produce the final score.
