WIAA state boys soccer: Arcadia ousted from Division 4 bracket in second overtime

MILWAUKEE — The Arcadia High School boys soccer team had its season ended in the WIAA Division 4 state semifinals on Thursday.

The third-seeded Raiders (20-3-4) pushed second-seeded Sturgeon Bay (21-3-2) to a second overtime, but Daniel Wienke scored unassisted in the 97th minute to give the Clippers a 3-2 victory and spot in Saturday’s championship game at the Uihlein Soccer Complex..

Arcadia, playing in its third state tournament this decade, never led but held the attack advantage throughout the game with 25 shots to Sturgeon Bay’s seven. The Raiders, however, were only able to put six of those shots on goal.

Senior Jerson Sanchez tied the score at 1 in the second half with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute, and that score held until overtime.

Ashton Benzinger put the Clippers up in the 87th minute before senior forward Christopher Urbina scored his 61st goal of the season with an assist from senior Johncarlos Uribe in the 89th.

Urbina put four of his 10 shots on goal, and Sanchez scored his ninth goal. Uribe’s assist was his 19th of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Alec Conrad played all 100 minutes and made two saves for the Raiders.
