MSHSL volleyball sections: Caledonia scores first-round sweep of Lake City

CALEDONIA — The Caledonia High School volleyball team was ready for the postseason.

The top-seeded Warriors kicked off their MSHSL Section 1AA tournament with a 25-8, 25-20, 25-21 victory over 16th-seeded Lake City.

Caledonia (24-5), which is ranked fifth in Class AA by the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association, blasted the Tigers in the first set and cruised through the win to advance to a quarterfinal match on Monday.

The Warriors will play ninth-seeded Dover-Eyota in a 6 p.m. match at the Mayo Civic Arena in Rochester. The Eagles beat eighth-seeded Rushford-Peterson on Thursday to advance. Caledonia beat Dover-Eyota (19-10) in four sets when they played during the regular season.

Senior Kelsey King led the Warriors with nine kills and 3.5 blocks. Freshman Ashlyn Reinhart had seven kills to go with two services aces and a block, and senior Paizley Lange had six kills, four digs and a block.

Junior Avery Augedahl led the team with 29 assists and added six digs, three kills and three aces, while junior Elsa Blum had six kills, 11 digs and four aces.

Junior Adrienne Lange had five kills and had one block assist for the Warriors.
