Friday football report (small schools): Caledonia, De Soto, Luther, Arcadia record victories

CALEDONIA — The Caledonia High School football team turned two first-half touchdowns and a big defensive effort into a 14-0 victory over an unbeaten and second-ranked Chatfield team on Friday.

The Warriors (5-2 overall, 4-2 Southeast Central-Yellow) had senior quarterback Will Allen involved in two scoring plays — one in the first quarter and one n the second — to win their third game in a row and become the first this season to beat the Gophers ( 6-1, 5-1).

Allen completed a 15-yard scoring pass to sophomore Grant King in the first quarter and rushed for a 29-yard touchdown in the second. He finished with 158 passing yards and 58 rushing yards.

Jacoby Hammell had five receptions for a team-high 90 yards, King caught two passes for 57, and sophomore Cooper Allen had a team-high 10 tackles.

De Soto 44, Highland 14

DE SOTO — The Pirates (5-2 overall, 5-2 Ridge and Valley) inched ahead of the Cardinals in the conference standings with a big victory at the Pit that concluded a third-place season.

Senior Austin DeFlorian carried 11 times for 155 yards and scored two touchdowns for De Soto, which was up 44-0 by halftime. He scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter and a 20-yard in the second.

Senior quarterback Finn Wrobel completed 3 of 4 passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns — both from 37 yards out. One of those scores went to senior Bryce Schultz and the other to senior Jackson Trussoni.
Schultz also rushed for a touchdown of 38 yards in the second quarter.

Onalaska Luther 32, Westby 14

ONALASKA — The Knights (4-4, 4-2) clinched a winning record in the Coulee standings by beating the Norsemen (2-6, 2-4), who forfeited a game to Aquinas last week.

Max Huelskamp rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns, and teammate Jax Hendrickson had 69 yards and one touchdown for Luther, which has won two straight games heading into next week’s season finale at Arcadia (6-2, 4-2).

Luther didn’t score until the second half and trailed until junior Logan Pierce scored on an 8-yard run that was the team’s first of five touchdowns in a row.

Hendrickson rushed 47 yards for the next touchdown, then caught a 14-yard pass from junior quarterback Jonny Holub for the third touchdown. Huelskamp followed with scoring runs of 46 and 14 yards to push the lead to 32-6 in the fourth quarter.

Blair-Taylor 30, Melrose-Mindoro 20

MELROSE — The Mustangs (5-3, 3-3) could never get the lead, but Jace Anderson tied the score at 14 with a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Junior Isaiah Kleinsmith carried 17 times for 115 yards and had a 42-yard touchdown run to lead the Melrose-Mindoro offense, which finished with 326 yards.

Quarterback Brady Blaken was held to 85 passing yards on 6-for-15 passing, but he scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to get the Mustangs to the final margin.

Arcadia 46, G-E-T 6

GALESVILLE — The Raiders (6-2, 4-2) used 186 rushing yards and a touchdown from senior running back Max Blaschko to beat the Red Hawks.

Junior quarterback Carter Wegman completed 12 of 13 passes for 147 yards and four touchdowns, and three of those went to junior Jonah Slaby, who had four catches for 67 yards.

Arcadia scored 22 points in the second quarter for a 30-6 halftime lead.
