WEST SALEM — The West Salem High School boys cross country team had three of the top eight runners and four of the top 10, but it wasn’t enough to catch Eastview in a race for the team championship during the Dick Mitchell Invitational on Saturday.
The Panthers posted a team score of 40, but Eastview (Minn.) came over from across the Mississippi River and won with a 24 and three of the top five finishers.
Sophomore Evan Berra led West Salem with a runner-up finish and time of 16 minutes, 36 seconds, finishing only behind Eastview junior Luke Bakken. Bakken completed the race in 16:20.8.
Logan finished third with an 81 and had junior Gabe Passe in the top 10 with a seventh-place run of 17:19.8. Central was fifth (126) and Aquinas sixth (152).
Senior Carson Gronemus backed up Berra with a fourth-place finish and time of 16:56.5 for West Salem. Junior Andrew Lorenz (eighth, 17:27.8), senior Kalen Spah (10th, 17:54.8) and sophomore Owen McKinney (16th, 18:32.6) also scored for the Panthers.
The Rangers received scoring runs form all juniors. Isaac Gabriel was 12th (18:06.8), Quinn Passe 18th (18:34.9), Gabe Driscoll 21st (18:43) and Tate Kujak 23rd (19:24.5).
Central was led by junior Jacob Fresia , who was 14th (18:28.7). Seniors Lydon Torkelson (24th,19:27) and Sean Erickson (27th,19:47.8) and sophomores Wesley Olson (29th, 19:49.8) and Ryan Wilder (32nd, 20:18) also scored for the RiverHawks.
Aquinas was led by senior Oliver Buck’s 15th-place run of 18:30.1. Freshmen Nolan Vandenlangenberg (25th,19:28.3), Alexander Boland (30th, 20:08.6) and Spencer Buck (39th, 21:16.7) and sophomore Gabe Schultz (43rd, 26:05.5) also scored for the Blugolds.
Junior Nathan Badillo finished 23rd for an incomplete Arcadia team with a time of 18:51.7. Senior Bryan Simon (73rd, 22:34) and junior Reese Kujak (74th, 22:44.2) also ran for the Raiders.

MIDDLETON — Holmen ran to a fifth-place finish and team score of 106 in a meet won by Stevens Point (37).
Junior Matthew Hoff placed fifth individually with a time of 16:11, and he was followed by senior Josiah Kulmaczewski’s 23rd-place performance and time of 17:13.9.
