Saturday cross country report: Holmen boys, girls fourth at Menomonie; West Salem boys fifth

MENOMONIE — The Holmen High School boys and girls cross country teams placed fourth at Saturday’s Menomonie Mustang Relays.

The Vikings ran to a collective time of 1 hour, 28 minutes in the boys competition and were led by junior Matthew Hoff’s time of 16 minutes, 43.5 seconds, which was good for sixth place overall.

Senior Josiah Kulmaczewski (17:38.1), sophomore Spencer Lowman (17:46.4), sophomore Casey Horman (17:54.1) and sophomore Hudson Moss (17:57.9) also factored into the team score for Holmen, which trailed just Menomonie (1:24:54.8), Eau Claire Memorial (1:26:05.2) and Hudson (1:26:19.2). Kulmaczewski was 19th overall.

West Salem’s boys were fifth and Logan’s 10th in the field of 15 teams.

The Panthers had the top area individual with fifth-place sophomore Evan Berra leading the way with his time of 16:40.1. West Salem’s had a team time of 1:28:50.9.

Senior Carson Gronemus (17:36.3), junior Andrew Lorenz (17:50.6), sophomore Owen McKinney (18:18.6) and junior Michael Torrance (18:25.3) also scored for the Panthers. Gronemus was 19th overall.

The Rangers had a team time of 1:33:19.9 and were led by 20th-place junior Gabe Passe (17:38.5). Junior Quinn Passe was timed at 18:30.5, junior Isaac Gabriel at 18:54, junior Tate Kujak at 18:57.1 and junior Gabe Driscoll at 19:19.8.

Holmen’s girls had a collective time of 1:45:41.3, which was only beaten ny Menomonie (1:36:48.6), Bloomer (1:38:41.3) and Eau Claire Memorial (1:42:16.3) and were led by senior Sabrina Lechnir (19:32.2), who was ninth overall.

Senior Naomi Wedan (20:29.2), sophomore Ruby Kinsman (21:26.6), freshman Resse Gamoke (22:02.2) and freshman Claire Wagoner (22:11.3) also factored into the Vikings’ team score. Wedan was 14th overall.

West Salem was seventh in 1:51:33.3) and paced by freshman Nora Johnson (21:33.8). She was backed up by sophomore Anna Witte (21:34.5), junior Sam MacRogers (22:16.2), junior Elise Flock (23:00.6) and junior Anna Knudson (23:08.2).

Logan junior Kareena Ramakrishnan ran unattached and placed 24th with a time of 21:15.5.

All-American Invitational

DECORAH — The Aquinas girls placed 12th, Central’s 18th and Onalaska’s 22nd among 30 teams at Luther College.

Junior Emily Bagniefski (22nd, 20:01.2) was the top local finisher, and she helped the Blugolds to a team score of 361. The RiverHawks had a score of 512 and the Hilltoppers a 557.

Sophomore Sanjana Musafir (20:47.5), junior Helen Onyeabor (22:29.4), senior Madelynn Grossbach (22:34.3) and junior Hope Hawker (22:51.2) also scored for Aquinas.

Central was led by sophomore Charlotte Yard (54th, 21:06.4) and sophomore Kaylyn Torkelson (22:16). Junior Brynn Bosshard (22:54.5), junior Mae Medinger (23:09.3) and freshman Violet Oldenburg (23:22.8) also had scoring runs for the RiverHawks.

Onalaska was led by sophomore Sadie Peterson (21:14.), junior Francesca Vriens (22:22.2) and junior Maya Hartman (23:05). Freshman Madelyn Davidheiser (23:25.4), sophomore Abbie Hanson (24:05.3) also scored.

Onalaska’s boys were 18th (520), Aquinas 20th (567) and Central’s 21st (574).

Onalaska junior Carson Fink’s time of 17:55.5 led all of those teams, and sophomore Sam Sulentic (19:06.4) followed for the Hilltoppers. Senior Luke Archer (19:22.6), senior Lewis Go (19:51) and senior Peter Mallady (19:54.2) backed them up.

Aquinas was led by senior Kaleb Azene (18:15.5), senior Oliver Buck (19:14.9) and freshman Nolan Vandenlangenberg (19:27.4). Freshman Alexander Boland (19:58.4) and freshman Buck (20:35.8) were also scoring runners for the Blugolds.

Junior Jacob Fresia (18:25.9) was the top runner for the RiverHawks, and senior Lyndon Torkelson (18:48.4) followed. Sophomore Wesley Olson (20:02.4), senior Sean Erickson (20:08.2) and sophomore Ryan Winter (20:23) also scored for Central.
