WAUSAU — The Logan High School football team will enter the MVC season with an unbeaten record after a 29-21 nonconference victory over Wausau East on Thursday.
The Rangers (2-0) scored all of their points in the final three quarters and broke a 21-21 tie when sophomore quarterback Tommy Check scored on an 8-yard run and followed it with a 2-point conversion with 1 minute, 22 seconds left.
Check finished with 106 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and held the Lumberjacks (1-1) to 65 rushing yards and 197 total yards.
Senior Maxim Roberts added 80 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries for Logan, which led 13-7 at the half after Check scored on a 4-yard run with 31 seconds on the clock. The Rangers missed an extra point after that score.
Jameson Degenhardt had an interception and Ben Spears a sack for Logan.

ELLSWORTH — Senior Christian Rudrud carried 25 times for 190 yards and two touchdowns, but the RiverHawks’ big plays weren’t enough to beat the Panthers (1-1).
Rudrud had runs of 60 and 54 yards and completed a 48-yard pass to Gabe Servais, but Central allowed sacks on fourth-down plays during its final two possessions while trying to take the lead.
Rudrud put the RiverHawks (0-2) within striking distance when he cut to his right and went 54 yards for a touchdown on the third play of the third quarter. The conversion pass to Connor Groth to tie the score was intercepted, and the score stood until the Ellsworth kneeled out the clock.
The Panthers pulled away with two touchdowns after Rudrud tied the score midway through the first quarter. He set up a 7-yard touchdown run with a 60-yard run down the right sideline.
The RiverHawks got within 23-15 on the final play of the first half when Rudrud broke free for a 24-yard run that gave them a first down at the Ellsworth 48 with 10 seconds left.
Rudrud hit Servais as he crossed the field at the 35, and the junior broke a couple of tackles inside the 10 to reach the end zone. Servais followed that with a 2-point conversion run and give the RiverHawks some momentum entering the second half.
