Tuesday’s cross country report: West Salem’s boys, Aquinas girls win Ken Trott Invitational

WESTBY — The West Salem High School boys and Aquinas girls walked away with team cross country championships at the Ken Trott Invitational on Tuesday.

The Panthers ran to a team score of 35 with three of the top four finishers and the Blugolds to a 48 with four runners in the top nine.

Sophomore Evan Berra won the boys race with a 4,000-meter time of 13 minutes, 46.3 seconds, and he was followed by senior teammate Carson Gronemus (14:01.4) in third and junior teammate Andrew Lorenz (14:14.5) in fourth.

Teammates Owen McKinney and Landon Rieber, both sophomores, also had scoring runs for the Panthers. McKinney was 11th (15:05.7) and Rieber 16th (15:16.8).

Sophomore Sanjana Musafir was the top Aquinas runner in the girls race with her fourth-place finish and time of 16:25.7.

Junior Emily Bagniefski (fifth,16:46.8), senior Alexa Myre (sixth, 16:52.8) and junior Caitlin Wengel (ninth, 17:13.9) also finished among the top 10 for the Blugolds. Senior Madelyn Grossbach also had a scoring run for Aquinas and was 24th (18:24.8).

Logan’s boys were second with a score of 85 and led by junior Gabe Passe (10th, 15:04.7) and junior Quinn Passe (12th, 15:06). Juniors Isaac Gabriel (15th, 15:16.8), Tate Kujak (17th, 15:20.2) and Gabe Driscoll (31st, 16:10.2) also scored for the Rangers.

The Aquinas boys were fifth and led by senior Kaleb Azene, whose time of 13:58.4 was second overall. Senior Oliver Buck (seventh, 14:40.1) also finished among the top 10, and freshmen Nolan Vandenlangenberg (37th, 16:38.9), Alex Boland (38th, 16:39) and Spencer Buck (46th, 16:56.8) helped the Blugolds to a team score of 130.

Onalaska Luther’s boys were eighth (203) and led by sophomore Gavin Labus (20th, 15:22.8) and junior Levi Braaten (21st, 15:27.9). The Knights also received scoring runs from junior Caleb Priem (34th, 16:29.2), junior Nathan Dobberstein (62nd, 18:34.2) and sophomore Connor Bradburry (66th, 19:25.5).

West Salem’s girls were third (82) and followed by ninth-place Logan (211) and 10th-place Onalaska Luther (261).

The Panthers received scoring runs from junior Elise Flock (11th, 17:15.9), freshman Nora Johnson (12th, 17:17.4), sophomore Anna Witte (13th, 17:34.4), junior Sam MacRogers (19th, 18:01.8) and junior Anna Knudson (27th, 18:34.5).

The Rangers were led by junior Kereena Ramakrishnan, who was 10th (17:14.1). Freshman Elin Miles was 36th (19:02.4), junior Natalie Pedretti 48th (20:54.2), junior Marlee Stevermer 58th (23:46.6) and sophomore Rachel Sward 59th (23:52.6).

The Knights were led by senior Jacee Erickson (38th, 19:15.8). Freshman Hannah Chambers was 53rd (22:38.9), junior Corrina Rouvel 54th (23:30.4), junior Elizabeth Hunter 56th (23:32.7) and freshman Kaelyn Freelitz 60th (24:05.7).
