High school girls tennis: Players to watch in the Coulee Region

The Aquinas High School girls tennis team was the WIAA Division 2 state runner-up last season, and the Blugolds and West Salem won respective MVC and Coulee Conference team championships.

Plenty of sectional qualifiers and top conference performers from the area are eligible to return this fall, and here’s a look at some of the names you could see doing good things over the next couple of months:

GIRLS TENNIS

HADLEY ALDERSON, so., Aquinas: Won the No. 4 singles championship at the Division 2 Portage Sectional, placed fourth at No. 4 singles in the MVC tournament and completed her freshman season with a 22-7 record.

TSION BENUSA, jr., Onalaska: Qualified to play in the Division 1 Middleton Sectional at No. 1 doubles. She also played with Grace Fabian and was MVC runner-up at No. 1 doubles.

CAROLINE CLARK, sr., Onalaska: Qualified to play in the Division 1 Middleton Sectional and teamed up for a third-place finish at No. 2 doubles. She also played with Claire Fortun on the runner-up No. 2 doubles team at the MVC tournament.

BELLA CROMHEECKE, sr., Onalaska: Division 1 Middleton Sectional qualifier at No. 3 singles. She placed second in that bracket, had a 21-6 record and was No. 3 singles runner-up in the MVC tournament.

JULIANA DUNN, so., Onalaska: Completed a 17-1 season by qualifying for the Division 1 Middleton Sectional and placing third at No. 4 singles. She also won the No. 4 singles championship in the MVC tournament.

CLAIRE FORTUN, so., Onalaska: A doubles sectional qualifier with Caroline Clark and third-place finisher at No. 2 in the Division 1 Middleton Sectional. She also played with Clark on the runner-up No. 2 doubles team at the MVC tournament.

MARA KLEIN, jr., Onalaska: Owner of an 18-9 record and winner in a three-set third-place match at No. 2 singles in the Division 1 Middleton Sectional. She was also No. 2 singles runner-up in the MVC tournament.

EMMA KOLB, sr., Onalaska Luther: Qualified for the Division 2 Portage Sectional at No. 1 singles and followed it up with a state appearance, where a 23-13 season ended in the first round.

KAITLYN MCGOVERN, sr., Aquinas: Won last year’s MVC championship at No. 3 singles and finished with a 30-5 record.

TENZIN NELSON, sr., Aquinas: Entered this season with an 82-4 career record and split two state matches after winning the No. 2 singles championship at the Division 2 Portage Sectional and the No. 2 singles flight of the MVC tournament.

KENZIE OLSON, sr., Onalaska Luther: Qualified for the Division 2 Portage Sectional and placed third while teaming with Keira Paus at No. 2 doubles. They also won the No. 2 doubles championship in the Coulee Conference.

KEIRA PAUS, sr., Onalaska Luther: Qualified for the Division 2 Portage Sectional and placed third while teaming with Kenzie Olson at No. 2 doubles. They also won the No. 2 doubles championship in the Coulee Conference.

ALIVIA RITTER, jr., Aquinas: Qualified for the Division 2 Portage Sectional at No. 2 doubles with Rose Schwinn-Weaver after the two won the No. 2 doubles championship at the MVC tournament.

KENDALL SULLIVAN, sr., West Salem: She was 27-3, qualified for the Division 2 Portage Sectional and placed second at No 2 singles after winning the Coulee Conference championship at No. 2 singles.

EVA WILLENBRING, jr., Aquinas: Won the MVC championship with Nora Dickinson at No. 3 doubles and followed that with a No. 1 doubles championship at the Division 2 Portage Sectional and a state appearance.
