West Salem High School senior Kyle Hehli has been awarded the No. 2 seed in the Division 2 singles bracket for the upcoming WIAA individual state tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Hehli (23-2), who owns fourth- and fifth-place singles state finishes and won the doubles title with his brother Jack as a freshman, will receive a first-round bye and open his tournament with a second-round matchup against either Kohler freshman Preston Chen (15-13) or Shorewood sophomore Nolan Johnson (6-10) at noon on Friday.

Chen and Johnson play Thursday evening, and the winner of the second-round match plays a quarterfinal at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Aquinas senior Anderson Fortney (29-3), who placed third the past two years in Division 2, is the 10th seed in the Division 1 singles bracket after the Blugolds bumped up. Fortney opens against Monona Grove senior Nathaniel Posset (18-8) at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, and a win gets him to a second-round match at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Aquinas junior Jaedan Silcox and Tegan Schott (17-3) played their way to a spot in the Division 1 doubles bracket and open against Madison West’s Grant Shadman and Brandon Royalty (14-3) in a 1:30 p.m. Thursday match. A win moves the winners to Friday morning’s second round.

Logan senior Finnian Clark and freshman Mitchell Jarrett (12-4) are in the Division 2 doubles bracket and matched up with extra qualifiers Sean Everson and Alex Lester (11-5) for a 7 p.m. Thursday start. That winner plays again Friday afternoon.
