Monday track and field report: West Salem boys win invitational at Viroqua

VIROQUA — The West Salem High School boys track and field team won Monday’s Blackhawk Invitational hosted by Viroqua with 113 points, while its girls team placed third with 95.

The Panthers were led in their championship effort by junior Carson Gronemus and sophomore Isaiah Laack.

ronemus won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 42.61 seconds, while Laack placed second in both the shot put (49 feet, 8 inches) and discus (147-3).

Senior Carter Quackenbush (800, 2:04.19) and sophomore Andrew Lorenz (1,600, 4:42.78) added individual second-place finishes, and the 400 relay team of Jackson Seberg, Jayden Hansen, Jackson Williams and Cade Donahue was second at 44.5.

Williams added one of West Salem’s three third-place individual finishes with his time of 11.62 in the 100. Senior Drew Anderson (400, 52.72) and senior Philip Gabrielson (800, 2:05.79) were also third, along with the 3,200 relay team of Tom Stenberg, Kaleb Spah, Liam Kaugland and Michael Lysne (9:25.24).

Junior Olivia Maki led West Salem’s girls with a victory in the 300 hurdles (49.46). Senior Mia Olson was second in the 800 (2:23.71) and ran one leg for the second-place 3,200 relay, which also included Elise Flock, Victoria Lysne and Anna Knudson and was timed at 10:32.48.

Junior Madison Kaiser turned in runner-up finishes in the shot put (35-1.75) and discus (118-2), and junior Maia Hutchens was third in the pole vault (9-0).
