LA CROSSE — The West Salem High School boys track and field team won the championship, and its girls finished second during the SWC/Coulee Conference Challenge at UW-La Crosse’s Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex on Saturday.
The boys won with 166 points, which gave them a comfortable cushion over second-place Viroqua (92). The girls (113) were only beaten by Westby (115).
West Salem’s boys won five individual events and two relays.
Cade Donahue won the 200-meter dash (22.69 seconds), Drew Anderson the 800 (2:00.36), Tom Stenberg the 1,600 (4:44.34), Evan Berra the 3,200 (19:41.98) and Isaiah Laack the discus (148 feet, 9 inches).
Gideon Wolbrink, Brennon Anderson, Michael Torrance and Anderson also teamed up to win the 1,600 relay (3:38.31), and Jovey Morrison, Andrew Larson, Graham Sjoquist and Philip Gabrielson won the 3,200 relay in 8:53.01.
Donahue added second place in the 100 (11.02) and Torrance second in the 800 (2:06.59). Owen McKinney (3,200, 10:53.16), Luke Baginski (triple jump, 42-6) and Elliot Wolf (shot put, 48-10.75) were also second, along with the 400 relay team of Kayden Langrehr, Jayden Hansen, Jackson Seberg and Jackson Williams (45.01).
Kalen Spah (3,200, 10:56.98) and Laack (shot put, 46-6) were third and Williams (200, 23.35) and Andrew Lorenz (800, 2:07.46) fourth.
West Salem’s girls received victories from their 1,600 and 3,200 relays. Anna Witte, Tiegen Duffy, Isabel Krueger and Faith Minard won the 1,600 (4:26.3), and MacLaine Heilman, Kennedy Garbers, Minard and Mia Olson won the 3,200 (10:24.43).
Madison Kaiser turned in a pair of runner-up finishes in the shot put (34-1.5) and discus (116-4).
Olson (1,600, 5:22.57) and Elise Flock (3,200, 12:55.65) added to the individual second places, and Dillan Riste, Bailey Rosenthal, Maia Hutchens and Duffy were second in the 800 relay (1:52.2).
Witte (800, 2:34.72) and Sam MacRogers (3,200, 13:07.74) were third.
Brielle Moore was fourth in both the 100 (13.06) and triple jump (32-7), and she was joined by Sydney Quick (discus, 94-9) and the 400 relay team of Riste, Moore, Kayla Rasmussen and Hutchens (53.4).
Onalaska Luther was led by senior Jack Schmeling, who won the boys high jump (6-6) and shot put (51-1). He was also third in the 110 hurdles (15.46).
The Knights also received second-place boys finishes from Nathan Jordahl (pole vault, 12-0) and the 800 relay team of Ayden Livingston, Nathan Dobberstein, Caden McCollough and Aiden Wickus (1:35).
Dobberstein was third in the high jump (5-10) and Kayden VanLoon fourth in the shot put (43-5.5).
Lauren Wickus won the high jump (5-3), was second in the 400 (1:01.66) and long jump (17-3.75) and third in the 200 (27.17) to lead Luther’s girls.
Jayda Livingston was second in the 100 hurdles (16.56) and ran with Jacee Erickson, Isabel Mueller and Payton Holub on the second-place 800 relay (1:49.88). She added fourth place in the long jump (16-7.75).
Erickson placed third in the pole vault (9-0) and fourth in the shot put (29-11.5).
Tessa Gloede (300 hurdles, 51.57) and Holub (discus, 96-4) were both third.
Arcadia junior Jaylie Dahl picked up victories in the 200 (26.54) and 400 (1:00.35) to go with a second-place performance in the 100 (12.77).
Ted Teske also placed second in the high jump (6-0) and third in the 200 (23.07) and long jump (20-9.5) for the Raiders. Andy Monroy was third in the 1,600 (4:55.92) and fourth in the 3,200 (11:02.09), and Jerson Sanchez fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.73) and 300 hurdles (42.58).
Arcadia’s Nathan Badillo, Matthew Badillo, Camren Schultz and Yahir Gonzalez were fourth in the 3,200 relay (9:06.89).
Arrowhead Invitational
HARTLAND — Onalaska’s girls placed third with 50.5 points in a meet with 47 teams represented, and the Hilltoppers came home with a pair of individual champions.
Senior Ella Stevens won the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.09 seconds, and senior Manny Putz — a University of Wisconsin commit — won the boys 3,200 with a time of 9:07.17. Stevens also helped pick up big points in relays.
Junior Makena McGarry also played a big role in helping the girls to a third-place finish. She was third in the triple jump (36 feet, 2.75 inches), ran with fourth-place relay finishes in the 400 and 800 and a sixth-place finish in the 1,600 relay.
Stevens and Eliana Mascotti were on both sprint relays, and Elin Gilles completed the lineup for an 800 that was timed at 1:44.82. Ella Ballmer completed the 400 lineup, which was clocked at 49.59.
McGarry, Gilles, Isabella Malecek and Isabela Gutierrez ran the 1,600 relay in 4:06.36.
Malecek added second place in the high jump (5-4), Kendall Carlson tied for fourth in the high jump (5-0), and Gabe Mauss was fifth in the long jump (22-4).
The Hilltoppers also had a mixed 1,600 relay of Luke Siegel, Brendan Chenault, Carlson and Eva Dryer finish fourth in 3:51.07.
Holmen’s girls placed fifth (36.5) and its boys 10th (23).
The Vikings won three individual events, with sophomore Jakai Ayed winning the 110 hurdles (14.65) and 300 hurdles (39.54).
Junior Lydia Lazarescu also won the 100 (11.86) and placed second in the 200 (24.33).
Holmen also had Alexa Szak in that fourth-place tie in the high jump (5-0) and a sixth-place finish from Brenna Schmidt in the discus (117-7). The 3,200 relay team of Ruby Kinsman, Naomi Wedan, Delilah Heacox and Sabrina Lechnir was also sixth with a time of 9:50.7.
Aquinas senior Declan Gregg ran to victory in the boys 1,600 (4:17.16).
Sophomore Eliot McKnight was also fourth in the girls discus (123-4), and senior David Onyeabor fifth in the boys triple jump (43-2.75).
Three Rivers Conference
ST. CHARLES — The Caledonia/Spring Grove boys placed seventh and its girls eighth in the conference meet.
Senior Fischer Wait won the boys 200 and 400 with respective times of 22.11 and 49.88 and helped the Warriors place second in the 800 relay (1:33.88). Eli Staggemeyer, Owen Staggemeyer and Coby Hammell also ran on that relay.
Eli Staggemeyer added second place in the 100 (11.32) and fifth in the 200 (23.4), and Owen Staggemeyer and Hammell tied for sixth in the 100 (11.51).
Junior Nicole Banse topped Caledonia/Spring Grove in the girls side with four finishes of fourth place or better.
Banse ran with Chloe Lange, Kamrin Thies and Sienna Augedahl to finish second in the 800 relay (1:48.74), and the same group placed fourth in the 400 relay (51.77).
Banse also took third place and Augedahl fourth place in the 200 with respective times of 27.18 and 28.02.
