MELROSE — The Melrose-Mindoro High School baseball team scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to force an eighth, then scored the winning run without making an out in a 7-6 nonconference victory over visiting G-E-T on Tuesday.
Shortstop/first baseman Eric Herzberg, outfielder Brady Blaken, outfielder/pitcher Brett Peterson and second baseman/right fielder Jacob Thesing all singled in the eighth inning — Thesing’s single scored Herzberg — as Melrose-Mindoro (12-3) won for the seventh time in a row.
Herzberg was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and Thesing 3 for 5 with the winning RBI. Herzberg’s double was the only extra-base hit among the Mustangs’ 11 hits in the game.
Melrose-Mindoro needed just one hit for its two seventh-inning runs, and Wade Adams scored the tying run on a balk.
Onalaska Luther 5, Brookwood 4
ONALASKA — The Knights (3-9-1) benefitted from three Brookwood errors in the bottom of the sixth inning to win a nonconference game.
The Falcons made three errors in the sixth, and first baseman Michael Johnson scored on the last of those to put the Knights on top after they tied the game at 4 in the fifth.
Third baseman Logan Pierce was 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI for the Knights, who led until allowing four runs in the top of the fourth.
Center fielder Ashton Kendall reached on an error, stole second base, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a Pierce sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4 in the fifth.
Caledonia 10, Dover-Eyota 3
CALEDONIA — The Warriors (9-4) had 13 hits and eight players with at least one in a win over the Eagles.
Second baseman Tanner Ginther, first baseman Garrett Konz and shortstop Reid Klug all had two hits in the top third of the batting order, and Klug had three RBIs. Designated hitter Mason King was also 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs.
Right fielder/pitcher Landon O’Heron was also 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Westby 7, West Salem 4
WEST SALEM — The Panthers (6-8, 4-5) allowed six runs over the first four innings in a loss to the Norsemen.
Parker Demorest and Luke Baginski had two hits apiece for West Salem, and both drove in a run. Demorest doubled, and Baginski tripled.
Terryn Boland added a double and Drew McConkey an RBI for the Panthers.
Viroqua 11, Arcadia 0
VIROQUA — The Raiders (7-9, 3-6) managed just four hits — all singles — in a loss to the Blackhawks. Deklyn Grzadzielinski, Login Scow, Ben Lightfoot and Caleb Pronschinske had hits for Arcadia.
