Thursday track and field: Christianson wins pole vault to lead Melrose-Mindoro at Hoffman Invitational

BLACK RIVER FALLS — The Melrose-Mindoro High School boys and girls track and field teams both placed seventh at the Hoffman Invitational hosted by Black River Falls on Thursday.

The boys scored 43.5 points and the girls 35 in meets won by Westby’s girls and New Lisbon’s boys.

The Mustangs were led by freshman Isaak Christianson in the boys competition after he won the pole vault with a height of 11 feet. Sophomore Caleb Arneson was also fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.9.

Melrose-Mindoro’s boys also had three relays finish among the top three. Landon Windsor, Aeron Hanson, Jackson Boese and Collin Christianson were second in the 800 relay (1:37.33), and the weight relay team of Ryan Her, Jacob Drew, Colton Drew and Isaiah Erickson were second in the 400 relay (52.27).

Trajan McRoberts, Wyatt Moser, Jayden Janzen and Will Radcliffe were timed at 9:47.9 and placed third in the 3,200 relay.

The Melrose-Mindoro girls were led by runner-up individual finishes from senior Isabella Libke and sophomore Sheila Johnson in the pole vault and high jump. Libke cleared 8-6 and Johnson 5-3.

The Mustangs were second in the 1,600 relay when Alexiah Stanton, Hope Meimann, Sheila Johnson and Bristol Coats were timed at 4:31.12. Coats also placed third in the long jump (15-1.75).
