Saturday soccer report: Central, Onalaska win shutouts at UW-La Crosse Invitational

LA CROSSE — The Central High School girls soccer team recorded its sixth shutout of the season on Saturday, and senior goalkeeper Laura Lapp didn’t even have to make a save.

The RiverHawks (6-1-1) flexed their defense while playing in an invitational hosted at UW-La Crosse and used one goal in each half to score a 2-0 victory over Baraboo.

Senior Avery Bosshard scored with an assist from junior Grace Wilkerson in the 19th minute and with an assist from sophomore Mae Yang in the 52nd minute to get Central — its only loss has come to West Salem — another nonconference victory.

Onalaska 2, Baraboo 0

LA CROSSE — The Hilltoppers (6-2) followed up a 2-1 win over DeForest on Friday with a shutout against the Thunderbirds at UW-L.

Goalkeeper Avery Cowley stopped the only shot directed her way, and Claire Verzwyvelt and McKenna Alderman scored goals for Onalaska. Kate Ramsay assisted on Verzwyvelt’s goal and Alex Drazkowski on Alderman’s.
