Thursday track and field report: Arcadia boys win nine-team invitational behind Teske’s 3 victories

ARCADIA — The Arcadia High School boys track and field team accumulated 128.5 points to win the team championship at the Arcadia Invitational on Thursday.

The Raiders won a nine-team competition and beat second-place G-E-T by 11 points and the rest of the field by at least 21.5 behind senior Ted Teske’s big day, which included a pair of individual victories and a piece of a relay championship.

Teske won the high jump by clearing 6 feet and by going 21-2.5 in the long jump. He won the high jump by 8 inches and the long jump by nearly 2.5 feet to complement his leg of the winning 1,600-meter relay, which was timed at 3 minutes, 35.39 seconds.

Senior Ben Kolstad, junior Jerson Sanchez and sophomore David Escalara also ran with the 1,600 relay.

West Salem placed sixth and Central ninth in the boys team standings.

Arcadia’s girls were the top local team finisher with their 74 points that were good for fourth place. West Salem was fifth and Central eighth.

Sanchez won the 110 hurdles (15.93) and senior Trey Lyga the discus (166-2). Senior teammates Andy Monroy and Kolstad added second-place finishes in the 3,200 (10:39.1) and pole vault (10-0), respectively.

Central senior Isaiah Yard won the pole vault (11-0), and West Salem had the top two finishers in the shot put with sophomore Isaiah Laack (46-1.25) and junior Elliot Wolf (45-8.5).

Junior Jaylie Dahl led Arcadia’s girls with wins in the 200 (26.47) and 400 (1:01.82) and a runner-up finish in the 100 (12.76). Junior Malaina Tullius was second in the pole vault (8-0) and freshman Kalani Vazquez second in the shot put (29-10).

West Salem junior Olivia Maki swept the hurdle events with a time of 17.12 in the 100s and 48.9 in the 300s. Senior Sydney Quick won the shot put (30-0.75), and junior Madison Kaiser was second in the discus (96-2).
