HOLMEN — The Holmen High School baseball team ran its winning streak to four games and scored three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to break open a close game against visiting Sparta on Tuesday.
The Vikings turned those six runs into an 11-4 victory over the Spartans that padded their MVC lead over second-place Logan to a game-and-a-half. Holmen (6-1-1, 5-0 MVC) made the Rangers (5-3, 3-1) pay for a Tuesday loss at Tomah.
First baseman Noah Oswald was 3 for 4 with a home run and six RBIs for Holmen, which also scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Oswald doubled home two runs in the second, hit a two-run home run in the fourth and singled home two runs in the fifth.
Right fielder Joe Meeter drove in two runs and scored twice, left fielder Alex Goryl scored two times and stole a base, and second baseman Nolan Mashak was 2 for 2 with three runs scored and a stolen base.
Jude Anderson pitched five innings for the victory and struck out two while allowing one earned run on two hits and four walks as the Vikings completed a regular-season sweep of the Spartans.
Tomah 7, Logan 6
TOMAH — The Rangers (5-3, 3-1) tied the game at 6 with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Timberwolves came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth and held Logan scoreless in the seventh.
Third baseman Bradley Check was 3 for 4 with two runs scored, and right fielder Preston Elston was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for the Rangers, who made an error that led to two unearned runs for Tomah.
Luther 8, West Salem 3
ONALASKA — The Knights (2-3-1, 1-2) won a conference game for the first time this season with a four-run third inning and a three-run fifth.
Second baseman Cal Lyga was 3 for 4 with an RBI, and right fielder Gabe Shepard went 2 for 3 and scored three runs. Third baseman Logan Pierce and Jackson Kendall both went 2 for 4 and center fielder Ashton Kendall drove in two runs for Luther, which had 12 hits.
Jackson Kendall struck out nine in six-plus innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk.
The Panthers (3-6, 2-3) were led by run-scoring at-bats by Luke Baginski and Max Diegmann.
Caledonia 5, Chatfield 4 (8)
CHATFIELD — The Warriors (5-3) won their third game in a row and scored in the top of the eighth inning to make it happen.
First baseman Garrett Konz and pitcher/shortstop Reid Klug each had two hits and drove in a run for Caledonia, which drew 11 walks.
Konz got things going in the eighth with a single and scored when center fielder Ben Stemper doubled.
Landon O’Heron pitched four scoreless innings for Caledonia, striking out four, allowing four hits and walking none.
Melrose-Mindoro 14, C-FC 4 (6)
MELROSE — The Mustangs (6-3) put the game away early with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Left fielder Wade Adams was 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Melrose-Mindoro offense, which had 10 hits and opened the game with five runs in the bottom of the first.
First baseman Brady Blaken and center fielder Brett Peterson both had two hits, and catcher Jayce Stetzer drove in three runs for the Mustangs, who have won five of their past six games.
