MVC boys golf: Onalaska, Logan/Central both search for second team victory

The MVC boys golf season advances to its third meet of the season Wednesday at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek in Onalaska, and both Onalaska and Logan/Central will be searching for their second team victories.

The Hilltoppers started the season with a convincing 14-stroke win at Coulee Golf Bowl on April 10 before the co-op stormed back from a fifth-place finish at Coulee to win at Hiawatha Golf Club in Tomah six days later.

Onalaska, behind freshman Rylan Tomashek and sophomore Chasen Witt, won that first meet with a score of 318. It was 14 shots better than runner-up Holmen and 16 ahead of third-place Holmen (334).

Tomashek shot a 78 and Witt a 79 with Witt tying Holmen senior Cale Halaska for second place individually.

Senior John Werwinski added an 80 and freshman Colten Schroeder an 81 for the Hilltoppers in a winning performance.

Logan/Central, which opened with a 341 at Coulee, cut their score down to a winning 326 at Hiawatha. The co-op beat second-place Holmen (327) and third-place Onalaska (330) in a much tighter competition.

Sophomore Sid Hooyman shot a 79 to tie for second place individually and lead Logan/Central, which also had an 82 from senior Zach Weiss, who was part of a tie for seventh place.

Witt was also part of the second-place tie four shots behind Tomah senior Collin Ritter’s 75. Werwinski shot an 80, and the Vikings were led by junior Logan Pinnow (80), Halaska (81) and junior Braylan Welch (82).
