ONALASKA — The West Salem High School softball team scored 11 runs in the top of the second inning to highlight a five-inning Coulee Conference victory over Onalaska Luther on Monday.
The Panthers won for the third time in four games by stopping the Knights 22-0 in a game that was stopped after West Salem (7-3, 4-1) scored six times in the fifth inning.
Junior Josie Brudos was 4 for 4 with three home runs, a double, nine RBIs and five runs scored for the Panthers. The home runs give her at least one in three of her past four games, and the pitcher is 9 for 14 with 11 runs scored, five home runs and 19 RBIs during that stretch.
Brudos also struck out nine and walked one during a one-hitter from the pitching circle.
Center fielder Makinlee Marshall was also 4 for 5 with four runs scored and two batted in and Megan Johnson 3 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBIs as West Salem bashed out 18 hits.
Brooklyn Lee and Dylynn Bayer both had two hits and two RBIs — and a double each — and Maclaine Heilman scored three runs for the Panthers, who moved a half-game ahead of Arcadia and into second place in a conference led by G-E-T (6-1, 4-0).
