LA CROSSE — The Logan High School baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 MVC victory over visiting Tomah on Thursday.
The Rangers (3-1, 1-0) won their conference opener after allowing a run in the top of the seventh and received one-out singles from Bradley Check and Owen Check for the tying and winning runs.
Bradley Check singled home Tommy Check on a line drive to right field to tie the game at 4 before Owen Check brought home Parker Lycke for the win with another single to right.
Bradley Check, who played shortstop, was 2 for 2 with a double, and the tying hit was his second RBI of the game. Jackson Bosch, who caught, pitched and played third base, also drove in two runs for Logan.
Owen Check drew the pitching start for the Rangers and struck out seven while walking three and allowing six hits over four innings.
Aquinas 4, Onalaska 3
LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (3-1, 1-1) bounced back from a loss at Onalaska on Tuesday and scored twice in the bottom of the seventh at Lee Gilbert Field.
Aquinas used four hits and two intentional walks for the tying and winning runs in the seventh, and Jackson Knothe’s bunt with one out and the bases loaded scored Waylon Hargrove with the winning run.
Isaac Schelfhout’s single to center field scored Jonny Deets to tie the game at 3, and Aedan David was walked intentionally to load the bases for Knothe.
Deets, Schelfhout and Landon Teachout all doubled for Aquinas, and catcher Jacob Thornton recorded two stolen bases. Schelfhout and Thornton were both 2 for 3, and Thornton caught three Hilltoppers stealing.
Shortstop Tyler Kowal drove in two runs for Onalaska, and pitcher/left fielder Bradyn DeLong reached safely three times with two walks and a single.
Holmen 10, Sparta 0 (6)
SPARTA — The Vikings (2-0, 1-0) won their MVC opener, and Aaron Ploszay and Paul Goryl combined to hold the Spartans to two hits.
Ploszay pitched the first five innings and finished with 11 strikeouts, four walks and two singles allowed. Goryl pitched a clean sixth.
Braeden Linse was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to lead a Holmen offense that had 11 hits and reached the 10-run mark by scoring six times in the top of the sixth inning. Alex Goryl was 2 for 4, and Abe Henderson drove in two runs.
Joe Meeter doubled, was hit by a pitch twice and scored three runs for the Vikings, who host Chippewa Falls in a doubleheader on Friday.
Arcadia 3, West Salem 1
West Salem 8, Arcadia 2
WEST SALEM — The Panthers (2-3, 1-1) and Raiders (3-2, 1-1) split a doubleheader.
Third baseman Terryn Boland reached base three times with a double and two walks and had two RBIs for West Salem as it recorded eight hits in the second game. Center fielder Max Diegmann also drove in two runs and was 2 for 3 with a double for the Panthers in their victory.
Ethan Lehman and Nate Stefferud combined to strike out 11 Raiders, who received two hits apiece from Max Sobotta and Ben Lightfoot.
Logan Scow, Austin Fernholz and Carter Wegman each drove in a run for Arcadia in its victory. Scow pitched a complete game and struck out 11, walked one and allowed one earned run on two hits.
Catcher Will Schmidt drove in a run for West Salem in that game.
G-E-T 7, Luther 1
GALESVILLE — The Knights (0-2) scored their only run in the top of the first inning, and the Red Hawks countered with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
Third baseman Logan Pierce doubled, drew a walk and scored while batting in the leadoff spot for Luther.
