PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — The Central High School baseball team scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a tied game and open its season with an 8-4 nonconference victory at Prairie du Chien on Monday.
Designated hitter Kenden Bishofsky hit a two-run single, and Jake Larson, Liam Branson and Jude Alvarado followed with RBI singles to help the RiverHawks break a 3-3 tie that had stood since the conclusion of the top of the second inning.
Alvarado, who played third base and shortstop, was 3 for 5, and Derrick Pangier, Bishofsky and Branson — he also doubled — drove in two runs apiece. Branson and Landon Smith were both 2 for 4, and Bishofsky scored twice.
Branson and Aiden Schultz combined to strike out seven and allow two earned runs on seven hits and three walks. Branson pitched five innings with four strikeouts, three hits and two earned runs allowed.
Blair-Taylor 4, Caledonia 1
BLAIR — The Wildcats held the Warriors (1-2) scoreless through the first five innings and to one earned run while striking out 14 times in the game.
Jack Schmitz struck out 12 over 4.2 innings for Caledonia, but Blair-Taylor took the lead for good with a two-run bottom of the third inning.
Shortstop Reid Klug was 2 for 4, and left fielder Will Allen drove in Tanner Ginther with the Warriors’ run in the sixth inning.
SOFTBALL
Central 4, La Crescent-Hokah 3
LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks (2-0) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Lancers at State Road Fields.
Third baseman Ashanti Yang tied the game when she advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball, and left fielder Addy Roessler won it when she singled to right field to bring Mady Young around for her second scored run of the game.
Shortstop Ellie Gillitzer was 2 for 2 for the RiverHawks, who had a 2-0 lead after two innings before La Crescent-Hokah took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the top of the seventh.
Carmen Petersen allowed two earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four for Central.
