MANKATO — The Onalaska High School girls track and field team placed third and Holmen’s fifth during the MSU-Mankato Showcase on Saturday.
The Hilltoppers finished with 33 points and the Vikings with 31 in a 27-team invitational. Onalaska’s boys tied for eighth (28) and Holmen’s 12th (25) among 30 teams.
Onalaska’s Makena McGarry won the long jump at 17 feet, 3.5 inches and added a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter dash (8.03 seconds) and eighth place in the 200 (26.88).
The Hilltoppers also received multiple top finishes from Manny Putz and Ella Stevens. Putz won the 1,600 (4:15.42) and was second in the 800 (2:01.72), and Stevens won the 60 hurdles (9.17) and was fourth in the triple jump (35-2.5).
Holman’s Jakai Ayed placed second in the 60 hurdles (8.24) and ran with Ryland Eickhoff, John Flaherty and Peyton Peterson on the fourth-place 800 relay (1:36.17). Eickhoff added an eighth place in the 200 (23.39).
The Vikings also had three girls relays place among the top eight. Naomi Wedan, Delilah Heacox and Sabrina Lechnir were joined by Rubianne Kinsman for a third-place finish in the 3,200 relay (10:18.3) and by Alivia Wickstrom to place fifth in the 1,600 relay (4:16.86). Wickstrom added a sixth-place performance in the 60 hurdles (9.64), and Lechnir was sixth in the 800 (2:32.01).
Wickstrom, Abry Bloyer, Nadia Trapnell and Molly McBride recorded an eighth-place finish in the 800 relay (1:52.39).
Holmen’s Brenna Schmidt and Onalaska’s Wylder Burch had second-place showings in the shot put and high jump, respectively. Schmidt put the shot 39-3, and Burch cleared 6-4.
Holmen’s Lydia Lazarescu was third in the 60 (7.7), Holmen’s Matthew Hoff fourth in the 3,200 (10:03.8) and Onalaska’s Isabela Gutierrez fourth in the 800 (2:30.3).
The Vikings had a pair of sixth-place boys relay teams. Dylan Whiteaker, Mason Moss, Spence Lowman and Jonahthon Rosenow were timed at 8:49.32 in the 3,200 relay, and Holmen’s 1,600 relay team was clocked at 3:45.5.
Onalaska’s Arlo White added an eighth-place finish in the 1,600 (4:31.59).
