LA CROSSE — The Holmen High School boys and girls track and field teams claimed victories during the Mauston Golden Eagle Invitational held at UW-La Crosse on Saturday.
The Vikings scored 94 points in girls events to hold off second-place Onalaska (76) and 74.5 in boys events to top second-place West Salem (70).
Logan’s girls were fourth and West Salem’s girls eighth, while Logan’s boys were fifth and Onalaska’s boys seventh. The Aquinas girls tied for ninth and its boys placed 13th, while Central’s girls were 14th and its boys 12th.
Holmen’s girls were led by Brenna Schmidt, who won the shot put at 38 feet, 5.75 inches, Alexa Szak, who won the high jump at 5 feet and Sabrina Lechnir, who won the 1,600 (5 minutes, 29.51 seconds) and placed second in the 800 (2:31.84). Teammates Abry Bloyer (55, 7.58), Naomi Wedan (400,1:03.28) and Kendall Kozlowski (pole vault, 9-6) were all second, and Alivia Wickstrom (55 hurdles, 9.33) third.
Onalaska’s Makenna McGarry and Logan’s Lilly Dettwiler were double winners. McGarry crossed the line first in the 55 (7.45) and went the farthest in the triple jump (37-0), while Dettwiler won the 200 (27.16) and long jump (16-11.5) and finished second in the triple jump (34-3.5).
Sanjana Musafir won the 3,200 (12:41.64) for Aquinas, and Onalaska’s girls were first in the 1,600 relay (4:19.98) and 3,200 relay (10:32.09).
Onalaska’s Ella Stevens was second in the 55 hurdles (8.7) and third in the long jump (16-4.5), and Aquinas’ Alex Myre (400,1:03.35), West Salem’s Elise Flock (1,600, 5:50.29), Logan’s Kareen Ramakrishnan (3,200, 13:27.18) and Onalaska’s Olivia Peterson (pole vault, 9-6) all placed third.
Holmen’s boys were led by Jack Barth, who won the 400 (51.44), Matthew Hoff, who won the 1,600 (4:36.58) and Jakai Ayed, who won the 55 hurdles (7.8).
The Vikings also won the 1,600 relay (3:42.6).
West Salem’s Drew Anderson (800, 2:08.73), Aquinas’ Declan Gregg (3,200, 9:30.32), Onalaska’s Wylder Birch (high jump, 6-1) and Onalaska’s Brendan Chenault (triple jump (42-1.25) also won events.
Holmen’s Rylan Eickhoff (55, 6.62), Logan’s Andrew Stanton (200, 24.0), Logan’s Gabe Driscoll (800, 2:09.46), West Salem’s Carter Quackenbush (3,200, 10:12.8) and Holmen’s Dane Mueller (pole vault (11-9) were all second, and West Salem’s Jack Torrence was third in both the 55 hurdles (8.48) and high jump (5-10).
Aquinas’ Kalen Azene (1,600, 4:51.92), Central’s Bode Nesler (3,200, 10:34.94), Logan’s James Leund (long jump (19-6) and Logan’s Jacob Hackbarth (shot ut, 47-5) all earned third-place finishes.
Cashton Invitational
LA CROSSE — Onalaska Luther’s boys placed second out of 21 teams with 55 points, and Arcadia was fourth with 44.
Luther’s girls were seventh (36) and Arcadia’s girls 21st (1.5) out of 22.
Luther seniors Jack Schmeling and Lauren Wickus enjoyed the biggest individual performances.
Schmeling won the high jump (6-1), was second in the 55 hurdles (8.26) and finished third in the shot put (48-10.5), while Wickus won the long jump (18-0), placed second in the 200 (27.01) and was third in the high jump (5-0).
Arcadia’s Ben Kolstad was second in the pole vault (11-6), and teammate Ted Teske second in the 200 (23.58). Luther’s Jacee Erickson also grabbed a runner-up finish in the girls pole vault (9-0).
Arcadia’s Andy Monroy was third in the 1,600 (4:59.42),and Luther’s Kayden VanLoon (shout put, 42-10), Nathan Jordahl (pole vault, 11-0) and Nathan Dobberstein (55 hurdles, 8.85) were all fourth.
