ROCHESTER — The Caledonia High School boys basketball team is still looking for a challenge in the MSHSL Section 1AA tournament, and that responsibility now falls on the shoulders of third-seeded Lake City.

The top-seeded Warriors (27-2) advanced to the section championship game on Thursday with a 71-48 semifinal victory over fifth-seeded Zumbrota-Mazeppa (18-11) at the Rochester Mayo Civic Auditorium on Saturday.

Caledonia’s semifinal win was its closest in three postseason games after a 91-47 win over Albert Lea and an 89-47 victory over La Crescent-Hokah.

The Warriors meet Lake City (19-9) for the first time this season in the sectional final at the Mayo Civic Arena. The game tips off at 8 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Class AA state tournament.

Senior Reid Klug scored a team-high 20 points and hit one of his team’s eight 3-pointers. Senior Mason King added 18 points and a team-high three 3s for the Warriors in a game they led 33-18 after one half. Klug had 11 of his points by halftime.

Freshman Grant King scored 13 points and senior Garrett Konz 10 for Caledonia, which ran its winning streak to 16 games since a loss to Stewartville on Jan. 11.
