Saturday wrestling report: Onalaska/Luther posts runner-up finish at Lee Griffin

VIOLA — Onalaska/Luther’s boys wrestling co-op placed second out of 10 teams with 110 points at the Lee Griffin Invitational hosted by Kickapoo/La Farge on Saturday.

The Hilltoppers were led by junior Carter Beeler (19-6), who won the title at 175 pounds and recorded an 18-2 technical fall over Iowa-Grant/Highland’s Ty Cutts (3-1) in the championship bout. Juniors Maximus Todd and Luke Archer (7-11) also qualified for the finals at 165 and 138, respectively. Archer lost his championship match by technical fall and Todd his by decision.

Lukas Todd (12-13, 132), Sam Sulentic (8-6, 144) and Grady Dunnum (16-9, 215) all finished third for Onalaska/Luther.

Will Flottmeyer won at 285, and Vincent DeBauche placed second at 138 for Aquinas, which sent a partial team.

Cadott Invitational

CADOTT — Arcadia placed fifth out of 17 teams with a score of 346 points.

The Raiders had three runner-up finishes, and those were provided by Logan Breske (9-1) at 132, David Aguilar (21-8) at 165 and Nicolas Esteban (19-8) at 175. Esteban won twice by pin, Aguilar once by technical fall and once by major decision, and Breske recorded one pin.

Ony Zaragoza (17-4) placed third at 113, and Zayden Sanchez (19-8, 106), Austin Fernholz (15-9, 190) and Eric Rodriguez (17-13, 285) all placed fourth for Arcadia.

P-E-M Invitational

PLAINVIEW — The Logan/Central co-op placed seventh out of 10 teams with 78.5 points.

The team was led by fourth-place finishes from Nicholas Wanner-Holinka (13-13,145), Calvin Arenz (17-10, 172), Jayden Delao (25-4, 189) and Collin Wilson (13-12, 215).

Delao won by technical fall in the quarterfinal round before an injury forced him out of the semifinals and kept him from wrestling for third place.

Vincent Moua (8-7, 114), Noah Nicholson (12-10, 215) and Christian Parcher (5-4, 285) all placed fifth for Logan/Central.

GIRLS

Lee Griffin Invitational

VIOLA — Sophia Paulson (17-4) placed second at 145 for Aquinas and pinned her first two opponents before getting pinned in the championship match.

Onalaska/Luther’s Megan Ramsay (18-7) also placed second at 126 after pinning her way to the finals.

Cadott Invitational

CADOTT — Kalyce Sobotta (15-3)led Arcadia with a runner-up finish at 132, recording two pins before losing by technical fall in the finals, and Ava Knopps recorded a pin on her way to a third-place finish at 185.

Madison Mahulga (4-6) won by decision in the fifth-place match at 107.
