Wrestling/hockey report: Holmen girls place third in state duals; Aquinas boys 2nd at Duffy

STEVENS POINT — The Holmen High School girls wrestling team placed third at a state dual tournament hosted by UW-Stevens Point on Friday.

The Vikings split into two teams, and its Maroon lineup won three of four matches, finishing with a 39-29 third-place win over Neenah after a 39-20 semifinal loss to Menasha.

Holmen Maroon opened with a 54-18 win over Chilton/Hilbert and followed that up with a 36-30 quarterfinal win over Bay Port.

Junior Sophia Walter and sophomores Aini Anderson and Kaytlynn Lambries all went 4-0 for the Vikings, who also received 3-1 performances from seniors Alexa Szak and Allison Weiss.

Walter wrestled at 185 and 235 pounds finished with three pins and one decision. Anderson won three matches by pin at 100 and 107, and Lambries won the only match she wrestled by decision at 114 after accepting three forfeits at 107.

Szak recorded three pins at 138, and Weiss had three pins while wrestling at 114 and 120.

The Duffy

PORT WASHINGTON — Aquinas recorded 164 points and was four points behind champion Luxemburg-Casco.

The Blugolds were led by championships from junior Waylon Hargrove (18-4)at 157 and junior Tyson Martin (26-1) at 215.

Hargrove used two pins and a major decision to qualify for his title bout and finished that in 43 seconds while competing against Oak Creek’s Ben Wiza (16-5). Martin followed a first-round bye with two technical falls before recording a 4-2 championship decision over Port Washington’s Garrett Kawczynski. Martin also beat Kawczynski at the Bi-State Classic.

Roger Flege (25-3) also advanced to the finals at 132 with pins in the quarterfinals and semifinals before getting majored by East Troy’s Brady Collins (27-3) in the title bout.

Aquinas received third-place finishes from Lincoln Stanek (20-5, 106) and Tyler Paulson (19-6, 126) and fourth-place performances from Trevor Paulson (20-7, 150) and Chase Schams (21-7, 285).

Holmen Triangular

HOLMEN — The Vikings beat Marshfield 47-24 and Waunakee 43-25.

Freshman Nathan Henderson won twice by pin at 120, and sophomore Brock Needham and senior Turner Campbell did the same at 126 and 132, respectively. Junior Noah Henderson had two pins at 138, and senior Abraham Henderson won once by pin and once by major decision at 190.

Freshman Rex Lancaster won one match at 106 and another at 113.
