Saturday hockey report: Coulee Region girls get back on winning track

MONROE — Ellie Hoehn and Gianna Sanchez scored second-period goals to help the Coulee Region girls hockey team build enough of a lead in what became a 4-3 victory over Rock County on Saturday.

The Cyclones (3-5-1) scored twice in the first period and twice in the second to help themselves bring an end to a two-game losing streak that included two shutout losses.

Coulee Region had a 2-1 lead before Hoehn scored unassisted at 2 minutes, 15 seconds in the second. Sanchez then scored for the second time and gave the Cyclones a 4-2 lead with an assist from Brooke Borkenhagen at 16:12.

Sanchez also scored her team’s first goal — that one came on an assist from Raegan Domack just 1:50 into the game. Borkenhagen later broke a 1-1 tie on a goal — her fifth of the season — that was set up by Mallory Long and Sanchez.
