The Aquinas High School girls basketball team ran its winning streak to two games heading into Saturday’s pivotal MVC matchup against Holmen with a 61-14 victory over Logan at the Steve Hole Field House on Thursday.
The Blugolds (3-3, 1-0) kicked off their conference season with their 103rd straight win in MVC play behind four 3-pointers and a game-high 14 points from senior Brooklyn Rohr. Rohr made two 3s in each half and had eight of her points in the second half.
Junior Sammy Davis added 12 points for a team that had 11 players score at least two points. Sophomore Gabby Stratman added seven points for Aquinas, which hasn’t lost a conference game since Dec. 11, 2015 at Holmen.
The Blugolds host the Vikings (1-3, 0-0) in a 3 p.m. tipoff on Saturday.
The Rangers (1-5, 0-1) were led by Kaia DePaolo’s six points and scored just three points in the second half.
Central 53, Wisconsin Rapids 47
WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The RiverHawks (3-2) received 42 of their points from junior Alahnna Simpson and sophomore Ellie Gillitzer in a win over the Red Raiders.
Gillitzer reached double figures for the second time with a season-high scoring performance. She made four 3-pointers — two in each half — and scored 10 first-half points as the game went to the second half tied at 27.
Simpson scored 13 of her points in the first half and is averaging 21.8 points per game, and Central has won two straight heading into Monday’s game at Arcadia.
Bangor 67, Cashton 43
BANGOR — The first-place Cardinals (5-2, 2-0) are already the only unbeaten team in the Scenic Bluffs Conference after defeating the Eagles (4-3, 1-1).
Senior Anna Fronk made four 3-pointers and scored 21 points for Bangor and is averaging 18.1 points per game with 24 3-pointers. She scored 10 points in the first half and led the Cardinals to a 38-19 lead.
Junior Kennedy Hamilton added 12 points and sophomores Jaycee Michek and Kiera Cavadini eight each for Bangor, which has won 27 straight conference games.
Cashton was led by seniors Marlee Schroeder and Taylor Lindley-Schendel, who combined for 20 points. Schroeder had 12 of them.
Hillsboro 65, Royall 46
HILLSBORO — The Tigers (5-2, 1-1) won their second game in a row and had pulled away from a 31-28 halftime lead over the Panthers (2-3, 1-1).
Senior Carmen Erickson made four 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 30 points for Hillsboro. She scored 17 of the Tigers’ 34 second-half points as they broke open the game. Lauren Woirol and Alana Clark added nine points apiece.
Bria Gruen scored 18 points and Layla Marty 10 for Royall.
Brookwood 42, Wonewoc-Center 33
WONEWOC — The Falcons (4-2, 1-1) picked up their second win in three games and allowed just 11 points in the second half.
Junior Reagan Muehlenkamp made a pair of 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Brookwood, which also received 19 points from junior Ruby Muehlenkamp. They combined to score 20 points in the first half and 19 in the second.
Wonewoc-Center (1-5, 0-2) was led by Kendyl Rowe and Bryn Burns, who had nine points apiece.
Caledonia 56, Waukon (Iowa) 33
WAUKON — The Warriors (5-0) remained undefeated after giving themselves a 35-13 halftime lead.
Senior Josie Foster made seven 3-pointers for 21 points to lead Caledonia, which made nine 3s in the game. Aubrie Klug added 15 points and Sienna Augedahl 14 for the Warriors, who have outscored their last two opponents 129-38.
