HOLMEN — The Holmen High School boys basketball team began its season with a 67-58 nonconference victory over Prescott at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse on Monday.
The Vikings (1-0) used an early 10-0 run for some separation over the WIAA Division 3 state qualifiers from a year ago and were led by senior Keenan Eisermann’s 17 points and seven rebounds.
Eisermann’s performance highlighted three double-figure scorers for Holmen, which outscored Prescott by six points in the first half and three in the second while making 10 of 22 attempts from the 3-point line.
Senior Kaiden Wilber added 16 points with three 3-pointers, and junior Alex Berget added 11 with a pair of 3s. Wilber also had five rebounds and Berget three steals as the Vikings started their second straight season with a victory and made 17 of 22 free throws.
Hillsboro 58, Kickapoo 55
HILLSBORO — Senior Jerry Von Falkenstein hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Tigers (1-0) a win in their first game of the season.
Senior Zack Morren led Hillsboro with 12 points, and Von Falkenstein added 11 as the Tigers opened their season with a win for the fourth straight year. Junior Miles Ravenscroft scored nine points for Hillsboro.
Kickapoo (1-1) was led by junior forward Breken Miller’s 18 points and 12 each from juniors Malachi McCauley and Arlon Walter.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Brookwood 43, Seneca 26
ONTARIO — The Falcons (3-1) used a 16-point scoring advantage in the second half to pick up another nonconference victory.
Junior Reagan Muehlenkamp scored a game-high 19 points for Brookwood, which pulled away from a 16-15 halftime lead to get back on the winning track after a loss to Westby.
Junior Ruby Muehlenkamp and sophomore Molly Hansen added 10 points apiece for the Falcons.
Independence/Gilmanton 46, Cashton 43
INDEPENDENCE — The Eagles (3-2) were outscored 15-5 from the foul line in a loss to the Indees (3-0).
Senior Taylor Lindley-Schendel scored a team-high 14 points for Cashton, which trailed 22-17 after one half.
