Saturday girls wrestling: Holmen wins team title behind three individual champs at Melrose

MELROSE — The Holmen High School girls wrestling team opened its season with a championship performance in the G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro Invitational at Melrose on Saturday.

The Vikings received bracket wins from junior Aini Anderson, freshman Kaina Westlie and senior Sophia Walter on their way to 183 total points. Lancaster was second with 180 points and Mondovi/Eleva-Strum third at 107.

Anderson recorded three pins — in times of 1 minute, 40 seconds, 39 seconds and 1:21 — and beat junior teammate Kayleen Bazan in the finals of their 108-pound bracket.

Westlie matched Anderson’s three pins and won at 121, and Walter finished all four of her matches at 232 by pin. Walter’s longest match went 1:51 and the other three came in 1:04 or quicker.

Junior Kaytlynn Lambries was second at 132 and sophomore Olive Bergman second at 138 for Holmen, which also received third-place finishes from junior Celia Drogseth at 153 and Ruby Gustafson at 138, a fourth from senior Peyton Katochvill at 126, fifth place from junior Kenzie Rothfahn at 146 and a sixth from freshman Lynzi Neumann at 115.

Onalaska freshman Evelyn Hooker won the championship at 153 with four pins, and sophomore teammate Megan Ramsay was third at 132.

G-E-T/Melrose-Mindoro received sixth-place finishes from junior Payten Craig (126) and sophomore Mikaela Dixon (132).

Royall Invitational

ELROY — West Salem/Bangor was fifth with 83 points and led by freshman champion Sophia Anderson at 114. Anderson pinned three opoonents,including Westby senior Kylie Klum in the semifinals.

Freshman Raylyn Anderson was third at 107 with three pins during a 4-1 day, and junior Lily Kasinger was third at 152 for the Catbirds.
