Weekend cross country/volleyball report: Holmen’s Lechnir, West Salem’s Berra, West Salem’s girls win cross country races

Sabrina Lechnir is a three-time MVC girls cross country champion.

NEW RICHMOND — Senior Sabrina Lechnir won the individual championship, and the Holmen High School girls cross country team placed third in a field of nine at the New Richmond Invitational on Saturday.

Lechnir beat the rest of the pack with a time of 18 minutes, 59.9 seconds, and the Vikings ran to a team score of 84. Eau Claire Memorial won with a 49, and Hudson followed with a 68.

Lechnir’s performance was the highlight for Holmen, which also placed fourth in the boys competition.
The Vikings had a team score of 86 in the boys race. Eau Claire Memorial also won that championship with a score of 63. Eagan (Minn.) followed at 70 and Hudson at 73.

Lechnir was backed up by fifth-place senior Naomi Wedan and her time of 19:47.7. Sophomore Ruby Kinsman was 12th (20:29.1), freshman Claire Wagoner 32nd (21:23.8) and sophomore Jolee Valiska 34th (21:25.2).

Holmen was led by junior Matthew Hoff in the boys race. He placed sixth overall with a time of 16:27.1.
Senior Josiah Kulmaczewski was ninth (16:50.1) and sophomore Hudson Moss 21st (17:27.8). Freshman Carter Sinn was 24th (17:39.3) and sophomore Spencer Lowman 29th (17:46.1) for the Vikings.

Edgewood Invitational

MADISON — Onalaska placed second out of 12 teams and lost the championship match to Verona.
The Hilltoppers (15-8) beat Wisconsin Dells 14-25, 25-23, 15-7 and Edgewood 25-13, 25-23 to reach the semifinal round. Onalaska then beat DeForest 25-22, 16-25, 15-13 before losing to the Wildcats 25-16, 25-19.

Junior Natalie Marso had a team-high 27 kills, and senior Isabella Malecek ranked second on the team in both kills 20) and blocks (12).

McKenzie Bauer had 49 digs. Isabella Eckstein had 43 assists, Zoe Koonce 13 blocks and Zayda Lawrence 25 digs and eight service aces.

FRIDAY CROSS COUNTRY
Nightfall Classic

MARSHFIELD — West Salem’s girls won the Division 2 team champions, and its boys finished second in Division 1.

Freshman Nora Johnson was third overall and the Panthers’ top runner in the girls race with a time of 20:30.99 as her team compiled a score of 31 to beat second-place Prescott (37).

Sophomore Anna White was fifth in 21:11.1, junior Sam MacRogers sixth in 21:24.79, freshman Natalia Minard eighth in 21:49.77 and junior Anna Knudson ninth in 21:50.69.

Arcadia’s girls were sixth in Division 2 with a score of 149.

Sophomore Shaylah Rodriguez was 25th (28:14.97), junior Malanie Moreno 26th (28:16.3), freshman Samantha Bustos 29th (28:43.8), senior Abbye Rojas 32nd (28:49.35) and sophomore Shannon Cruz Sandoval 37th (30:45.63).

Logan’s girls were eighth in Division 1 at 211 and led by junior Kareena Ramakrishnan (18th, 20:55.2). The Rangers also received scoring runs from junior Marlee Stevemer (44th, 24:57.75), junior Natalie Pedretti (45th,25:00.95), sophomore Rachel Sward (51st, 27:30.03) and freshman Olivia Peitce (53rd, 29:02.79).

West Salem’s boys score of 65 was only beaten by Menomonie’s 36.

Sophomore Evan Berra won the race in 16:07.94, and he was joined in the top 10 by senior teammate Carson Gronemus (fifth, 16:27.71).

Junior Andrew Lorenz (14th, 17:01.69) and senior Kaleb Spah (19th,17:26.95) both finished in the top 20, and sophomore Landon Rieber ran a 17:55.09 for 26th place.

Logan’s boys were seventh in Division 1 with their score of 159.

Junior Gabe Passe was 16th individually and crossed the line in 17:16.45. He was followed by junior Isaac Gabriel (32nd, 18:11.71), junior Quinn Passe (33rd, 18:12.75), junior Tate Kujak (38th, 18:35.06) and junior Gabe Driscoll (40th, 18:45.94).

Arcadia’s boys were fourth in Division 2 with 93 points and two runners in the top 10.

Junior Nathan Badillo was fifth in 18:09.07) and senior Alec Conrad eighth in 18:19.4.

Junior Reese Kujak (24th, 21:43.15), senior Bryan Simon (26th, 22:20.48) and junior Christian Ortiz (30th, 24:14.01) also scored for the Raiders.
