Tuesday volleyball report: Onalaska helps create three-way tie for second in MVC; Caledonia sweeps Fillmore Central

ONALASKA — The Onalaska High School volleyball team moved into a three-way tie for second place in the MVC with a five-set victory over visiting Aquinas on Tuesday.

The Hilltoppers (12-7 overall, 4-3 MVC) completed a season sweep of the Blugolds with a 25-22, 25-23, 13-25, 20-25, 15-13 victory.

Junior Natalie Marso led Onalaska with 22 kills, and senior Makena McGarry added 16 while finishing the first set with one of them.

Junior Lauren Pica had 26 assists, sophomore McKenzie Bauer 18 digs and four assists and sophomore Kayla Ketelhut 15 digs and two service aces.

The Blugolds (8-11, 4-3) were led by a 24-kill performance by senior Sammy Davis. She also had 19 digs and three blocks.

Junior Adelaide Bezemek had 45 assists, 15 digs, two aces and four blocks, while junior Aubrey Coyne recorded a team-high 24 digs.

Sophomore Ava Kujak also had 10 kills and seven blocks for Aquinas.

Caledonia 3, Fillmore Central 0

CALEDONIA — The Warriors (16-3, 7-0 Three Rivers), who are ranked sixth in Class AA by state coaches, became the first conference team to knock off the Falcons this season.

Caledonia received a team-high eight kills from freshman Ashlyn Reinhart, who also had eight digs and three service aces.

Senior Aubrie Klug had 17 digs to go with two aces, and junior Avery Augedahl led the team with 21 assists and added eight digs and one ace.

Senior Kensey King led the Warriors with five blocks and had three kills, while junior Adrienne Lange had four kills and two blocks.

Junior Elsa Blum added nine digs, three kills and three aces and junior Paizley Lange six digs, two kills and two aces.

Central 3, Tomah 2

TOMAH — The RiverHawks (12-10, 4-3) also jumped into the second-place tie by beating the Timberwolves 20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 27-25, 16-14.

Junior Kaitlyn Borge led the team with 14 kills, and junior Mady Young added 11 to go with 21 digs.

Junior Ellie Gillitzer had a team-high 22 digs and 43 assists to go with eight kills, and junior Ella Crawford added eight kills and a team-high four blocks.

Holmen 3, Sparta 0

HOLMEN — The first-place Vikings (20-0, 7-0), who are ranked sixth in Division 1 by state coaches, took care of the Spartans 25-18, 25-20, 25-23 at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse.

Senior Charley Casey had a team-high 12 kills to go with 15 digs for Holmen, which has a three-game lead on Onalaska, Aquinas and Central in the MVC.

Senior Macy Kline had 17 digs, senior Sadie Meyer 22 assists and junior Chloe Jones seven kills for the Vikings, who won their 10th conference match in a row.

West Salem 3, Black River Falls 0

The Panthers took out the Tigers 25-11, 25-21, 25-17 behind eight kills from senior Natalee Reichert.
Junior Addy Oldenburg added seven kills, and junior Kirsten Hubbard had 12 assists for West Salem.

Eau Claire Immanuel 3, Melrose-Mindoro 0

MELROSE — The Mustangs (4-10, 1-3 Dairyland) were on the wrong side of 25-13, 25-20, 25-20 scores.

Melrose-Mindoro was led at the net by Bella Rozek’s six kills and two blocks, while Anna Radcliffe recorded 21 digs and three services aces.
