WESTBY — The Central High School girls cross country team was third and its boys fourth at the Westby Invitational on Tuesday.
The RiverHawks ran to a team score of 60 in the girls competition, which was won by Westby (44). Viroqua was second at 45.
Central was led by sophomore Charlotte Yard and her fifth-place time of 21 minutes, 5.6 seconds. Sophomore Kaylyn Torkelson (eighth, 21:43.3) followed Yard across the line.
The RiverHawks also received scoring runs from junior Brynn Bosshard (12th, 22:03.9), freshman Clara Jantz (17th, 22:55.1) and junior Mae Medinger (18th, 22:57).
Melrose-Mindoro’s girls finished eighth (217) and Onalaska Luther’s ninth (232).
Junior Sheila Johnson (10th, 21:37.9) landed in the top 10 for the Mustangs, who also received points from senior Calysta Bautch 40th, 25:51.8), freshman Grace Loecke (54th, 30:51), senior Mattison Foster (55th, 30:53.8)and senior Rosalyee Hughes (57th, 39:01.8).
The Knights were led by senior Jacee Erickson (35th, 25:01.3) and freshman Hannah Chambers (43rd, 26:07.2). Junior Corrina Rouvel (49th, 26:55.8), junior Elizabeth Hunter (52nd, 28:22.3) and junior Athemia Horstman (53rd, 29:06.9) also scored for Luther.
Central’s boys finished with a team score of 123 in a meet won by Sparta (70).
Junior Jacob Fresia was the RiverHawks’ top runner with a seventh-place finish and time of 18:21.8.
Senior Lyndon Torkelson (18th, 19:02.4), senior Sean Erickson (24th, 19:33.8), sophomore Wesley Olson (32nd, 19:51.8) and sophomore Ryan Wilder (42nd, 20:13.2) also scored for Central.
Junior Caleb Arneson (16th, 18:52.8) led Melrose-Mindoro, and freshman Carter Wortman followed in 45th place (20:28.3). Junior Ryker Werner (64th, 22:07), junior Grayson Mulholland (66th, 22:20.6) and junior Dayton Wade (67th, 22:27.3) also ran for the Mustangs.
Luther sophomore Gavin Labus was 20th overall (19:06), and junior Caleb Priem (33rd (19:54.2) followed for an incomplete team.
