HOLMEN — The Holmen High School boys soccer team picked up its second consecutive victory when it scored the first three goals in what became a 3-2 MVC win over visiting Onalaska on Tuesday.
The Vikings (6-5-1 overall, 6-1 MVC), who are second in the conference standings, scored once in the first half and twice in the second to hand the Hilltoppers (4-5-4, 3-1-2) their first MVC loss of the season.
Braylan Welch scored once in each half, and Ethan Johnson once in the second half for Holmen, which has only been beaten in the MVC by first-place Arcadia.
Welch gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead with an assist from Brock Needham, who also helped them push the lead to 2-0 when he assisted on Johnson’s goal. Welch scored what became the winner off an assist from Jacob Simmons.
Onalaska stormed back with goals from Benji Zimmer and Michael Zelaya-Melgar after Welch’s second score but couldn’t tie things up.
Arcadia 7, Logan 0
LA CROSSE — The Raiders, who are ranked sixth in Division 4 by state coaches, improved their conference record to 6-0 by hitting the Rangers with 35 shots — 18 of them on goal — to go with nine corner kicks and two penalty kicks at Swanson Field.
Arcadia has outscored its conference opponents by a combined score of 30-5.
Parker Stevermer had 22 saves for Logan, which put two shots on goal and was held without a corner kick.
Central 3, Sparta 1
SPARTA — The RiverHawks (3-6-2, 2-3-1) scored once in the first half and broke a 1-1 tie with two goals in the second half in a win over the Spartans (2-6-2, 0-5-1).
West Salem 4, Aquinas 0
LA CROSSE — The Panthers shut out the Blugolds at Fields for Kids with goals from Sam Adams, Cade Donahue, Peyton King and Kayden Tauscher.
Cameron Reinhart had six saves for Aquinas.
GIRLS
Caledonia 1, St. Charles/P-E-M 1
ST. CHARLES — The Warriors (3-8-1, 0-7-1) received a goal from senor Loisah Gay in the 16th minute, but the Saints came back to tie the game before the end of the first half.
Alexis Qualy had 10 saves for Caledonia, which snapped a five-game losing streak.
