HOLMEN — A 12-yard touchdown pass from Colin Williams to Jack Barth with 1 minute, 34 seconds on the clock was followed by a conversion pass from Barth to AJ Alesch as the Holmen High School football team beat Reedsburg in a big MVC game Saturday.
The teams began their battle Friday night before weather pushed the second half back to Saturday.
The Vikings (5-0 overall, 3-0 MVC) used a big passing game from Williams to hand the Beavers (3-2, 1-2) their second conference defeat.
The final touchdown drew Holmen to within one point of Reedsburg, and coach Travis Kowalski opted to go for the lead over the tie.
“I like to play to win and not to not lose,” he said. “Both sides were gassed, and I think it was better to go win the game rather than try to deal with possible overtimes.”
Williams completed all 8 of his passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a score as the Vikings took care of business and pulled out a game that was tied at 14 at halftime.
Williams also rushed for 37 of his team’s 140 yards, and John Faherty ended Reedsburg’s final possession with an interception.
Barth caught five passes for 44 yards, and senior Ryland Eickhoff had a 77-yard touchdown catch for Holmen.
