Thursday volleyball report: Holmen sweeps Logan while Onalaska, Aquinas post MVC wins

HOLMEN — The state-ranked and first-place Holmen High School volleyball team took care of Logan 25-6, 25-16, 25-16 in an MVC match at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse on Thursday.

The Vikings (19-0 overall, 6-0 MVC), who are ranked seventh in Division 1 by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association, completed their first half of the conference season by sweeping their fifth MVC opponent.

Senior Charley Casey had 10 kills and four service aces for Holmen, which also received eight kills from junior Moira Linse and six from junior Linley Regan.

Senior Makenna McHugh had 18 assists for the Vikings, who next host Sparta on Tuesday. The Vikings opened their season by sweeping the Spartans.

Senior Kaia Depaolo had nine kills and four digs for the Rangers. Junior Lilly Dettwiler had four kills and senior Alysha Hayes 11 assists.

Onalaska 3, Sparta 1

ONALASKA — The Hilltoppers (11-7, 3-3) beat the Spartans 25-11, 16-25, 25-17, 25-13 for their second straight conference win.

Junior Natalie Marso led Onalaska with 16 kills, and senior Makena McGarry had 11 kills and 13 digs.
Sophomore Mckenzie Bauer had 39 digs, six assists and two service aces and freshman Bella Eckstein 25 assists.

Sophomore Kayla Ketelhut added 16 digs and three aces and junior Kendall Carlson 11 kills, nine digs and two aces for the Hilltoppers.

Aquinas 3, Tomah 0

TOMAH — The Blugolds (8-10, 4-2) received a match-high 21 kills from senior Sammy Davis while beating the Timberwolves 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 for their fourth straight MVC victory.

Davis also had 11 digs, three blocks and two services aces for Aquinas, which has won three matches in a row and four of its past six.

Junior Adi Bezemek had 36 assists to go with four digs and three blocks, and junior Aubrey Coyne added 20 digs for the Blugolds.

Eleva-Strum 3, Melrose-Mindoro 1

MELROSE — The Mustangs (4-9, 1-1) were beaten by the Cardinals by scores of 25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 25-22.

Junior Bella Rozek had 18 kills and three service aces, while senior Cooper Zeman had nine kills and four aces. Melrose-Mindoro received 19 assists from senior Abby Heimdahl and 17 from senior Opal Buchanan.

Onalaska Luther 3, Black River Falls 0

BLACK RIVER FALLS — The Knights (10-3, 4-2) were led by sophomore Tessa Gloede’s nine kills, six service aces and three blocks in a 25-12, 25-10, 25-16 victory over the Tigers.

Senior Kayla Schiebel had eight kills and six blocks, and junior Addie Schaper set up the offense with 25 assists and added six aces.

Senior Kamryn Anderson had a team-high 12 digs, and sophomore Cara Unke added six kills for Luther, which has won two of its past three matches.
