Monday girls golf report: Onalaska second, Holmen third in MVC meet

ONALASKA — Sophomore Finley Schams was individual medalist as the Onalaska High School girls golf team placed second in the fourth MVC meet of the season on Monday.

Schams shot a 10-over-par 81 at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek, and the Hilltoppers had four of the top nine performers on the way to a team score of 363. Tomah, as it did in the first three conference meets, won, this time with a 352.

Holmen was third (426), Aquinas fourth (428) and Central/Logan fifth (467).

Schams recorded a pair of birdies on the front nine — No. 1 and No. 6 — and had a 1-over 37 on the front to go with a 44 on the back nine. That allowed her to beat Tomah senior and runner-up Karma Hasselberger (83) for the individual championship.

Onalaska also had senior Sydney Kranig finish fifth (89), junior Becka Mohr eighth (96) and senior Rickie Tillotson ninth (97).

Holmen was led by freshman Serene Mather’s 93, which was good for sixth place. Sophomore Kayle Banse (108), senior Teagan Nelson (112) and junior Emily Napiecek (113) also scored for the Vikings.

Aquinas was led by 10th-place senior Molly Swift (98) and junior Gabriella Stratman (103). Senior Lucy Reyerson (108) and senior Hayden Zehren (119) also had scoring rounds for the Blugolds.

Senior Elena Wagner and junior Abby Wurm led Central/Logan with 115s and were followed by senior Jaymeson Buxton (117). Seniors Emma Roesler and Alayna Berra tied at 120.
