Wednesday’s girls golf report: Onalaska second, Holmen sixth in tournament at Sparta

SPARTA — The Onalaska High School girls golf team turned in its second runner-up finish in as many days while playing in the Sparta/Joanie O. Invitational on Wednesday.

The Hilltoppers followed a second-place finish at the Trempealeau Mountain Invitational on Tuesday by cutting 5 shots from its team total and scoring a 370 at River Run Golf Course on Wednesday.

Onalaska trailed champion Tomah (341) in a 12-team competition that also included Holmen — sixth place with a 403 — and Central/Logan — 10th with a 454.

Onalaska was led by seniors Sydney Kranig and Rickie Tillotson, who shot matching 89s and tied for fifth place individually.

Sophomore Finley Schams and junior Becka Mohr tied for 15th place with 96s to round out Onalaska’s team scorecard.

The Vikings were led by sophomore Kaylee Banse (96) and junior Emily Napiecek (100). Senior Teagan Nelson added a 101 and freshman Serena Mather a 106 for Holmen.

Central/Logan was led by senior Elana Wagner (96) and senior Jaymeson Buxton (107).

Banse and Wagner were also part of that tie for 15th place.
