Tuesday’s MSHSL softball: Caledonia wins twice to qualify for 1AA section final

AUSTIN — The fourth-seeded Caledonia High School softball team won twice to claim the championship of the elimination bracket in the MSHSL Section 1AA tournament and keep alive its season on Tuesday.

The Warriors (21-5) beat Winona Cotter 5-0 and Chatfield 5-2 at Todd Park South Field to qualify for a championship game against top-seeded Randolph on the same field Thursday. Caledonia needs to beat Randolph twice to qualify for the state tournament after losing a 1-0 game to Randolph earlier in the tournament.

Freshman Avery Augedahl shut out the Ramblers on five hits in Tuesday’s first game. All five were singles, and Augedahl broke the game open with a three-run, which had four runs in the sixth after getting its first in the second.

The Warriors had 12 hits against the Gophers and pulled away with two runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth.

Third baseman Paizley Lange was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, Avery Augedahl was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a tiple, and Lily Augedahl doubled and drove in two runs.

Blum was also 2 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI, and center fielder Ashlyn Reinhart went 3 for 4.
Avery Augedahl pitched her second complete game of the day and finished with six strikeouts, three walks and eight hits allowed.
