ONALASKA — Onalaska High School senior Manny Putz returned to the track and blew out the competition in the 1,600-meter run at the Onalaska Invitational on Tuesday.
Putz won the race in 4 minutes, 12.77 seconds to highlight the gathering as teams prepare for conference meets. Putz plans to compete in three events during the MVC meet at UW-La Crosse on Saturday. Holmen’s Spencer Lowman was second to put with a time of 4:51.22.
Holmen senior Jaren Nygren was the lone double-winner with his victory in the 100 (11.74) and his tie with Central’s Anthony Jones for the top height in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches).
Onalaska’s boys also received victories from Arlo White (800, 2:01.15), Joshua Phillips, 110 hurdles, 17.46), Brendan Chenault (long jump, 20-0.25), Gabe Mauss (triple jump, 42-3) and Kyle Dryer (discus, 148-8) in a meet that did not keep team scores.
Holmen’s Jack Barth, Peyton Peterson, Eli Kane and Ryland Eickhoff won the 800 relay (1:30.43), and teammate Braedin Grandt won the 200 (23.65).
Central received a victory from Gabe Servais in the 300 hurdles (43.57).
Holmen’s Lydia Lazarescu and Brenna Schmidt and Onalaska’s Makena McGarry built on strong seasons with wins in the 200, shot put and 100, respectively. Lazarescu won he 200 in 25.19, Schmidt the shot put at 40-6 and McGarry the 100 in 13.04.
The Vikings also received girls victories from Delilah Heacox (400,1:02.42), Alivia Wickstrom (300 hurdles, 48.59), Kately Dittman (1,600, 6:30.03), Abry Bloyer (long jump, 16-5.25), Bela Waters (triple jump, 33-10.25) and the 800 relay team of Isabelle Korthuis, Isabel Archer, Ruby Kinsman and Naomi Wedan (1:54.89). Alexa Szak tied Onalaska’s Kendall Carlson for the win in the high jump (5-4).
Emily Bagniefski (800,2:30.45) and Eliot McKnight (discus (122-6) won for Aquinas, and Olivia Peterson (pole vault, 10-0) won for Onalaska.
Onalaska’s Rachel Young, Ava Senn, Ilyanna Martinez and Allison Komperud won he 400 relay (54.99) and Central’s Ella Madsen, Makenna Klingelhofer, Gracie Duncanson and Ever Grabhorn the 3,200 relay (12:52.08).
