Monday baseball report: Schelfhout’s three-hitter shuts down Central in Aquinas shutout

LA CROSSE — Senior Isaac Schelfhout pitched a three-hitter as the Aquinas High School baseball team recorded a 10-0 six-inning MVC victory over Central at Lee Gilbert Field on Monday.

Schelfhout allowed two singles and a double as the second-place Blugolds (10-2, 6-1) won their seventh game in a row. He struck out seven and walked two.

Sophomore shortstop Jonny Deets was 4 for 5 with a triple, two RBIs and scored two runs for Aquinas, which highlighted its game with a four-run first inning and finished it with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Left fielder Landon Teachout was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Schelfhout also scored three runs.

Left fielder Landon Smith doubled for the RiverHawks (2-10, 0-5).

Onalaska 8, Logan 6

ONALASKA — The third-place Hilltoppers (6-8, 5-2) scored five runs in the bottom of the third and withstood the Rangers (7-6, 3-4) scoring four in the top of the fifth.

Pitcher/left fielder Bradyn DeLong was 2 for 3 with a stolen base, and catcher Hunter Morse and third baseman Trent Oyen each drove in two runs for Onalaska, which made the most of five hits. Ian Kowal and Cooper Rudie both doubled for the Hilltoppers.

Logan was led by shortstop Bradley Check, who doubled twice and scored twice. Left fielder James Gruen was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Caledonia 11, Winona Cotter 0

WINONA — The Warriors (8-4) allowed seven hits in the doubleheader sweep.

The teams were scoreless until Caledonia scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Left fielder Will Allen was 4 for 4 with three stolen bases, three RBIs and two runs scored for Caledonia, which had 12 hits in the opener. Shortstop Reid Klug was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Jack Schmitz, Caden Hauser and Garrett Konz all doubled. Right fielder Landon O’Heron also drove in two runs.

Konz struck out 11 and walked two while pitching the shutout.

The Warriors scored three runs in the first inning of the second game, which included 12 more hits.

Center fielder Ben Stemper was 3 for 4, and Schmitz was 2 for 2 with five RBIs. Konz doubled twice and Klug went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Klug struck out gour and walked three during a two-hit shutout.

Melrose-Mindoro 9, Eau Claire Immanuel 1

EAU CLAIRE — The Mustangs (11-3, 8-1) won their eighth straight conference game to stay on top of the Large Division of the Dairyland.

Melrose-Mindoro pulled away from a 2-0 lead with five runs in the top of the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Third baseman Eric Herzberg and center fielder Brett Peterson were both 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Mustangs, who took advantage of three Immanuel errors and finished with eight hits. Herzberg hit a home run, and Peterson doubled and tripled.

Right fielder Isaiah Kleinsmith also had two hits and scored twice, and first baseman Brady Blaken was 2 for 3 with three runs scored. They both stole two bases.

Jacob Thesing pitched a complete game and struck out six. He allowed one earned run on three hits.

G-E-T 12, Arcadia 4

ARCADIA — The Raiders (7-8, 3-5) tied the game at 4 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Red Hawks countered with six in the top of the sixth.

Freshman Deklyn Grzadzielinski was 4 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases for Arcadia, which also received an RBI from Max Blaschko.

Westby 9, Onalaska Luther 0

ONALASKA — The Knights (2-9, 1-5) were held to two hits and allowed five runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Caleb Mielke doubled for Luther, which also received a single from Jackson Kendall.
