Thursday soccer report: West Salem posts second straight shutout in MVC play

WEST SALEM — The West Salem High School girls soccer team maintained its status as the only unbeaten team left in the MVC by beating visiting Sparta 4-0 on Thursday.

The Panthers (6-1, 4-0) posted their second shutout of the week and followed up significant victories over Onalaska and Central by blanking the Spartans. They have won three straight games.

Seniors Brynlee Kelly and Emily Fell and juniors Emily Graham and Addy Ferguson scored once each for West Salem, which also received an assist from junior Brisha Brisemo and the shutout from junior Baylee Faucett.

Aquinas 1, Logan/Luther 1

LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (4-1-1, 1-1-1) eked out a goal in the closing minutes to get a tie with the Rangers (3-4-1, 0-3-1) at Swanson Field.

Junior Hayden Zehren scored on a direct free kick in the 78th minute to give Aquinas its only successful attempt while putting together an attack that produced 15 shots and put seven of them on goal.

Logan/Luther, which put three of its four shots on goal, held a 1-0 lead for most of the game after Emma Kolb scored with an assist from Riley Horn in the 16th minute.
