The Aquinas and Onalaska high school boys basketball teams celebrated with No. 1 seeds when the WIAA released brackets for the upcoming tournament series on Sunday.
The Hilltoppers (15-7) and Blugolds (20-2) were given top seeds in Division 2 and 4, respectively, and that gives them byes through the regional quarterfinal round.
Onalaska will host a semifinal game March 7 against either eighth-seeded Tomah or ninth-seeded New London. Those teams meet in Tomah on March 4. In that same bracket, Central (15-8) is seeded second and West Salem (15-6) third.
Eleventh-seeded Logan (6-16) plays a quarterfinal at sixth-seeded Fox Valley Lutheran on March 4, and the winner travels to West Salem three nights later. Central will host either seventh-seeded Waupaca or 10th-seeded Menasha on March 7.
The Blugolds also start playing March 7 and will host either eighth-seeded Whitehall or ninth-seeded Bangor in its semifinal. Luther (18-5) is seeded sixth and hosts 11th-seeded Mondovi in a quarterfinal March 4.
Holmen (17-5), as the area’s lone Division 1 program, drew a fourth seed and begins with a home semifinal against 13th-seeded Kimberly on March 7.
Arcadia (12-10) is seeded fourth in Division 3 and will also play a home semifinal on March 7. The Raiders will host either fifth-seeded Stanley-Boyd or 12th-seeded Wautoma.
