WIAA wrestling: Holmen’s Henderson, Lamprich, West Salem/Bangor’s Moore, Logan/Central’s Delao win Division 1 sectional titles

EAU CLAIRE — The Holmen High School wrestling program followed up a boys WIAA Division 1 team sectional championship on Tuesday and two individual girls state qualifiers on Friday by advancing three boys out of the Eau Claire North Sectional on Saturday.

The Vikings — in addition to the qualification of Haley Dezelske and Allison Weiss on Friday — will have two sectional champions and one runner-up competing at the Kohl Center on Madison next weekend.
Freshman Nathan Henderson and senior Jonathon Lamprich won championships, and freshman Rex Lancaster grabbed a second-place finish to give Holmen the biggest group of Division 1 local state qualifiers.

West Salem/Bangor junior Teghan Moore and Logan/Central senior Jayden Delao also won sectional championship matches on Saturday to qualify for spots in state brackets.

Henderson (40-4), who is ranked third by Wisconsin Grappler, won his first two matches at 120 pounds by pin and technical fall before het met up with eighth-ranked Oliver Larson of River Falls. Henderson handed Larson (37-9) a 13-4 major decision to win in his first attempt at an individual sectional title.

Lamprich (38-7), ranked eighth, won by technical fall and twice by decision to get through at 165. He beat seventh-ranked Haiden Carlson (32-8) of Marshfield 12-9 in the championship match to advance. He is also a first-time qualifier.

Lancaster (43-5) won by pin and technical fall to advance to the finals at 106, but Moore avenged a loss to Lancaster last week with an 8-5 sudden victory this time around. Lancaster’s technical fall over Tomah’s Blake Champlin (43-11) in the semifinals made him the automatic second-place finisher.

Moore (49-3), ranked fifth, also won by major decision and technical fall before knocking off the fourth-ranked Lancaster. Moore is another first-time state qualifier.

Delao (33-4) rounds out the list of first-time qualifiers after he won the championship at 190. He won the championship match via injury default over West Salem/Bangor senior Trevor Arentz (47-10). Delao needed just 3:14 to pin his quarterfinal opponent and 3:34 to get through the semifinal match with a second straight pin.

Arentz had pinned his way to the finals before the combination of a dislocated shoulder and two labrum injuries took their toll and ended the match. He then loss the second-place match and had to settle for third place in a tournament where the top two advance.

Holmen senior Turner Campbell (34-4) lost his final two matches at 126 and joined Arentz as a third-place finisher. Holmen’s Noah Henderson (36-12, 138) and AJ Alesch (19-8, 150) also placed third.

West Salem/Bangor’s Jackson Roesler (34-10, 126) and Miles Olson (40-16, 215 and Holmen’s Brock Needham (29-14, 132) and Colin Griffin (30-15, 157) all finished fourth.
