Tuesday boys basketball report: Central starts to shoot out of slump in MVC win over Logan

LA CROSSE — The Central High School boys basketball team started to dig its way out of a shooting slump on Tuesday by picking up a 68-42 MVC victory over Logan at the Mark Sutton Memorial Gymnasium.

The third-place RiverHawks (11-7, 6-3) scored a total of 72 points in their previous two games but had 33 — more than they had in a 40-31 loss at Aquinas — by halftime on the way to leading from start to finish and beating the Rangers (6-14, 1-8) a second time.

Sophomore Gabe Servais made 8 of 11 shots and led Central with 17 points. He made 1 of 2 attempts from the 3-point line and 7 of 9 from inside it.

Senior Jaylon Calvert added nine points and senior Derrick Pangier eight to go with a team-high eight rebounds and team-high five assists for the RiverHawks. Joey Pretasky and Dawson Lapic also scored eight for Central and combined for 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Jameson Degenhardt scored 12 points on 6-for-12 shooting for Logan, which struggled from the perimeter by making just 2 of 14 3-point attempts. Senior Jacob Hackbarth scored eight points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go with two blocked shots and two steals.

Holmen 75, Sparta 71

SPARTA — The Vikings (15-4, 7-2) moved into a first-place tie with Aquinas by beating the Spartans (13-7, 3-5) for a second time.

Sophomore Jayden Bartels made six 3-pointers and scored a team-high 20 points. Bartels made 7 of 13 shots and hit 6 of 11 attempts from the 3-point line. Holmen made 14 of 33 3-point attempts in the game.

Senior Kaiden Wilber added 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting and was 3 for 7 from the 3-point line. Junior Alex Berget scored 14 points and led the team with six assists.

Senior Keenan Eisermann added eight points for Holmen.

Caledonia 105, La Crescent-Hokah 51

LA CRESCENT — The Warriors (21-2), who are ranked third in Class AA, ran their winning streak to 10 games and had 71 points by halftime against the Lancers (11-11).

Eleven players scored for Caledonia, which made 10 3-pointers and hit 15 of 18 free throws.
Senior Garrett Konz scofred a team-high 19 points, and senior Noah Treptow added 16.

Senior Mason King made four 3-pointers and scored 14, and freshman Grant King made two 3s on his way to 14. Seniors Reid Klug and Ethan Stendel added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Caledonia, which hasn’t lost since Jan. 11 and hosts Cannon Falls (19-3) on Thursday.

La Crescent-Hokah scored just 19 points in the first half and was led by Berkley Mlsna’s 10 points.

G-E-T 47, Arcadia 32

ARCADIA — The Raiders (10-10, 4-6) didn’t get to the rim enough and settled for too many 3-pointers, according to coach Ryan Sonnentag, in a loss to the Red Hawks.

Arcadia was held to 14 first-half points and didn’t get a scorer into double figures in losing to G-E-T for a second time.

Sophomore Carter Wegman was held scoreless in the first half but rebounded with nine in the second to lead the Raiders. Senior Ted Teske added eight points for Arcadia, which hosts first-place West Salem on Friday and plays each of its four remaining regular-season games at home.
