The Coulee Region was represented well at the Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches State Dance Team competition at the La Crosse Center on Jan. 1-Feb. 1.
Aquinas left the competition with a state championship after winning the Division 6 pom title over second-place Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs and third-place Lake Country Lutheran. The Blugolds qualified to compete and won with a group of dancers that included Riley Wiczek, Elsa Fortner, Avonlea Stanley, Charlotte Berendes, Grace Anderson, Brooklyn Elskamp, Layla Hirschboeck, Aly Small, Ava Robinson, Lily Fukuda, Lauren Dahl and Brooklyn Fruechte.
Aquinas also qualified in Division 3 jazz (placed fifth) and had All-State soloists in Fortner, Wiczek and Stanley.
Onalaska finished third in Division 3 pom and fourth in Division 2 jazz and had solo qualifiers in Division 3 with Leah Theis and Megan Komperud.
Holmen (Division 2 pom), West Salem (Division 3 jazz and Division 5 pom) and La Crosse Central (Division 2 hip hop) also had qualifying teams that competed at the La Crosse Center. West Salem’s Makena Fecht and Ella Muellenberg were also All-State finalists.
Brenna Babe, Morgan Haas, Lucy Lichtie, Violet Chase, Lilah Dewey, Alyxann Weiss, Quincy Dawson, Coreyna DeRuyter, Ellie Helgeson, Olivia Matt, Paige Barth and Addison Bassuener make up the Holmen team.
