ONALASKA — The Onalaska Luther High School boys basketball team has had a rough month of January, but the Knights took a step toward reversing that situation on Friday.
Luther built a 31-point lead through the first half and scored a 79-33 Coulee Conference victory over visiting Viroqua.
The win ended a four-game losing streak and gave the Knights (8-4, 4-2) their first victory since beating Mondovi on Dec. 30.
Senior guard Synclair Byus made 10 of 15 shots and nailed a couple of 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 22 points. He also had six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Senior Will Huelskamp added 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting and nine rebounds to go with three assists and two steals, and junior Brody Greeno had 11 points and six rebounds while making 4 of 5 shots.
Luther plays Winona Cotter in the opening game of Saturday’s portion of the Midwest Players Classic at the La Crosse Center. The game tips off at 9:15 a.m.
