Slalom skiing: Gundersen, Raven, Callaway dominate meet at Mount La Crosse

LA CROSSE — The Aquinas/Onalaska/West Salem boys ski teams posted a couple of victories in slalom races at Mount La Crosse on Wednesday. Independent skiers did the same in the girls races.

Patrick Gundersen was the winner in both races with a time of 22.46 seconds in the first race and 21.62 in the second. He was followed by A/O/WS teammate Cullen Sackman in both races with his second-place times coming in at 22.97 and 22.38. Central/Logan’s Benedict Althoff was third in the first race (23.57), and A/O/WS’s Jonathon Gehrke was third in the second race (23.36). Gehrke was fourth in the first race (23.94) and Althoff fourth in the second (24.26).

Central/Logan’s Keya Lee was fifth in both with respective times of 25.4 and 25.39.

A/O/WS posted a team score of 15 points in the first race and 14 in the second. Central/Logan had 21 in the first race and 22 in the second.

The girls races were dominated by independent skiers Alyssa Raven and Petra Sederstrom.

Raven won both slaloms and was timed at 23.97 seconds in the first and 24.17 in the second. Sederstrom was runner-up in both with times of 26.85 and 26.69. They helped their group post winning scores of 13 and 14 points.

A/O/WS was second with 24 points in the first race and 22 in the second, while Central/Logan checked in at 46 and 52.

A/O/WS’s Brynn Grabowski was third in the first race (27.58), and teammate Kendall Carson was third in the second race (27.47). Grabowski was fourth in the second race (27.74) and Carlson fifth in the first (28.35).

Evelyn Bruns, another independent skier, was fourth in the first race (27.94). Fellow independent skier Magnolia Sheehan was fifth in the second race (28.47).

Bodie Callaway was the winner in both snowboard runs, and he helped A/O/WS to a winning score of 10 points each time. Callaway was timed at 22.68 in the first run and 23.28 in the second.

A/O/WS’s Carter Fortun was second in the second race (32.17) and third in the first (31.76). Teammate William Bakkestuen was runner-up in the first race (27.09).

A/O/WS’s Braxton Wiczek was third in the second race (33.65) and fourth in the first (33.47), and teammate Cameron Gage was fourth in the second (35.31).

Fifth-place performances went to A.O.WS’s Ryan Nummendor Robles in the first (35.91) and Central/Logan’s Maxwell Willis in the second (36.96).

A/O/WS’s Tennysen Makepeace and Lonen Vanderhorst won snowboard runs. Makepeace won the first in 31.98 and placed second to Vanderhorst in the second at 33.25. Vanderhorst won the second (28.39) and placed second in the first (34.34).

A/O/WS’s Jacee Erickson had two third-place finishes (35.24 and 34.99), and Central/Logan’s Anna Moua was fourth (35.5 and 35.51) in both.
