LA CROSSE — The Holmen High School boys basketball team had a run at the century mark come up a bit short at the Steve Hole Field House on Friday.
The Vikings used a 55-point second half to pull away from an eight-point halftime lead in what became a 91-59 MVC victory over Logan.
Holmen made 10 3-pointers but shot 71 percent by making 30 of 42 shots inside the 3-point line to pick up its third straight victory while improving to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the MVC.
Senior Kaiden Wilber made 12 of 17 shots on his way to a game-high 27 points. He made 3 of 6 3-point attempts and finished with six of his team’s 24 steals. The Vikings had 10 players score.
Junior Alex Berget added 19 points while making 9 of 15 shots. Senior Tristan Hanson scored 13 points and sophomore Jayden Bartels 12.
Senior Keenan Eisermann had six points and a team-high nine steals, and senior Jeren Rink led the team with seven rebounds.
The Rangers (4-6, 0-2) were led by senior Bradley Check’s 25 points and 10 rebounds. Check made two 3-pointers, hit 7 of 9 free throws and added four steals and three assists.
Sophomore Bubba Leaver added 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.
Onalaska 75, Tomah 67
TOMAH — The Hilltoppers (9-2, 2-1) received 22 points from senior Broden Steiner and 17 apiece from junior Ian Kowal and senior Jack Smith in a victory over the Timberwolves (4-5, 0-2).
Sophomore Quinn Gerke scored a game-high 33 points for Tomah, and junior Michael Zastoupil added 15. Gerke topped the 30-point mark for the fourth time this season.
West Salem 88, Luther 58
WEST SALEM — The first-place Panthers (8-3, 5-0) may have turned in their best defensive effort of the season in a win over the second-place Knights (7-3, 3-1), who were knocked from the ranks of the Coulee Conference unbeaten.
West Salem had a 40-23 lead by halftime and was led by senior Kyle Hehli’s 29 points. Hehli made four 3-pointers — two in each half — and scored 19 points in the first half.
Senior Carter Pontius scored 15 of his 16 in the second half for the Panthers, who have won two games in a row and three of four. Junior Nathan Dillaber made three 3s and scored 13 points, while sophomore Drew McConkey made two 3s on his way to 12.
Luther was led by senior Will Huelskamp’s 17 points and three 3-pointers and 11 points from senior Synclair Byus. Max Huelskamp and Brady Greeno each added nine points.
